Almost perfect for digital cameras

A compromise camera for me. They tried to capture the feel of the Nikon F3 with the concept and features of a digital body. Unfortunately, I think they lag a little behind both. The best thing about the old F cameras is the all-metal body and feel. This camera is much more plastic in comparison. It's still well done, it just doesn't inspire me like F3 does. Compared to a DSLR, the operating layout is NOT suitable for fast field operation. I can ignore that with old school film cameras because…

Back to the future for instant cameras

In my 60's with a background as a photojournalist in the 1970's, this retro Nikon body brings back many great memories. For someone returning to serious photography after 30+ years in another profession, this is the perfect upgrade from the Nikon D5200 which I have been using for family photography for the past five years. The transition from DX format to full format is a great achievement. For the price, the benefits are worth every penny. Bought a body with a special edition 50mm f/1.8 lens…

Pros
  • 5.5 fps, continuous shooting
Cons
  • I'll be silent

Image quality is special

Manual focus doesn't give fast illumination, but I don't use DF for sports and action. Color is great in both vivid and neutral, standard and portrait modes. Black and white are sharp and contrasting (depending on the quality of the lenses used, of course). The chassis is light, perhaps a little lighter than that of the D750. The grip is ok if you remember what it was like to hold the camera in your hand). Film camera body than this, feels a little better than this. I have medium sized hands…

Pros
  • Viewfinder with 0.7x magnification and 100% coverage
Cons
  • No autofocus

Excellent image quality, however.

I would give this camera a perfect 5 stars apart from the fact that it doesn't hold up well. The pictures are fantastic and I have no problem with the picture quality as they are excellent. I also have a Nikon D4 and the shots are very similar in contrast, latitude, etc. My problem is the camera surface. The material glued to the front is peeling off (and I even use a retro leather case all the time to protect most of the camera). The tissue around the round disk of the anterior diaphragm also…

It just feels "right " to me. 5 stars

What can I say. Finally there is a DSLR that will feel "familiar" to the old hands who have had their hands on the Nikkormat and Nikon F, FE and F2 since the early 70's. My wife and I are avid Nikon fans and have amassed a "collection" of Nikon bodies and Nikkor lenses over the years. This camera has so many features that I love, but the most important thing is that it works with all of the F-mount Nikkor lenses we have, including some from the late 60's. As soon as I started reading about it…

Bought for low light

When it comes to photography I'm hooked. Primarily to photograph my child and the activities we participate in. I usually shoot a lot indoors and before I got the Df I had a flash attached most of the time. I wanted a camera with FX as most of my lenses were already FX so I settled on the D800, D610 and Df. The main factors in my decision were low light, megapixels and price. The D4 was never listed due to its high price. Low light photography has become an important factor. The video was not…

Bad mood, great photos.

I mainly shoot film and have a lot of manual Nikon prime lenses. So I wanted a camera that would work like a handheld camera. So before that I tried the X-Pro 2 and I really liked this camera. It felt perfectly in my hands and was a lot of fun to photograph. However, I was never really satisfied with the pictures. They came out flat and the JPEG colors looked a bit cartoonish. I felt the same way with the X100S. I think this camera is the complete opposite. Doesn't feel very good in the hand…

Pros
  • The foldable connecting arm makes it compatible with all Nikon F-mount lenses, even non-AI
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Both silver and black models are available (along with other full-frame Nikon cameras). As a longtime Nikon photographer, I grew to like the Df more and more. I like the variety of lenses I can use on the camera and using older (high quality) lenses doesn't degrade the image quality that much. Most top-of-the-line manual focus lenses (along with early autofocus lenses), like AIS, don't have the "resolution" of a 16-megapixel sensor. In fact, I've found that any lens I can't get "sharp enough"…

Pros
  • Magnesium alloy body with mechanical exposure control
Cons
  • Crumpled
