Beautiful colors! - Colors

I really like Prima watercolors and I especially love the tropics. I am an aspiring watercolor painter and find these colors on par with Winsor Newton. I might even like these. The can is the perfect size for on the go. Pictured is my palette and a wreath of flowers I made using only the Tropical palette on Strathmore 300 Series Cold Press Watercolor Paper.

Incredible saturation for the price, color choice.

Incredible saturation for the price, color choice is a little questionable with so much green and cool/warm reds come a bit close to fuchsia but are absolutely fantastic for bright colors or some crustaceans like the ones I list below have . Gotta love the warmth of that orange. An unbeatable starter kit, combine with the Pentel Aquash and 0.5 micron water brush for a neat little sketching kit.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

As a professional artist, I expected a lot from the paint itself. I wanted a metal box. But I found the colors very pigmented and nicely saturated. They get wet quickly and are very juicy on the brush. As others have pointed out, there is enough room in the jar for additional half pans to fill with your favorite foods from the tubes already provided. What a cute set! Amazingly high quality.

Grab it, it's worth it!

Great color at a great price! I have to say I was disappointed when I saw how few half pans were when they arrived. But I was so impressed with the quality of these paints. The tropics are heavily pigmented so it helps a little. They are well shaded, transparent and packaged in a beautiful metal case that can be removed for washing. With these colors I have painted flowers, birds, landscapes and abstraction. This palette has a wide range of colors. ***Update: A year later this is still my main…

I really like these colors and have decided to try another set.

I got these as an alternative to the extremely expensive watercolors I started with when I had to do all my wedding invitations and I knew what I got from them. I originally bought some cheap ones from Michaels but they wore out and ruined everything I knew wouldn't fit in our invitation set. The pallet had almost no dent. I also used calligraphy colors to address the envelopes. They all arrived in the mail with no problems and had no stains or fading issues, even on international envelopes…

The perfect little pot of paint!

The perfect little paint can! This is my second watercolor glass that I have ordered from the Prima collections. I bought paints from Decadent Pies for the first time and fell in love! This is a really good travel set and even for someone like me who is new to watercolor painting the price is right! The paint cans are individually wrapped in plastic cellophane and come with colored paper with the paint number written on it - lovely attention to detail from the company! These jars have many…

Handy little palette at a great price

I bought this Prima product mainly because of the handy little palette. Hinged lid and mixing drawer are on one level. There are a total of 10 flat mixed cells of different sizes - 2 in the lid, 4 in the flip tray and 4 in the base. The paint tray slides out easily when you need extra mixing space. As I wet the Swatch colors, I noticed that the halves of the pans tend to move sideways because there is a half-inch gap on the sides when you push all the pans together. So I'll probably squeeze…

The tin has some quality issues but in general an excellent set

The paints themselves are of decent quality, very bright and easy to transfer to the brush after the cakes are wet. The packaging is very charming, very compact / portable size. Most colors are translucent to transparent. The two shades of blue are sometimes difficult to distinguish. Warm colors (especially warm yellow ocher) are very strong, while blue appears weaker (although purple is lighter!). Some reviews say the color is chalky, I don't think so. I would also like manufacturing…
