Fixing two outdoor water hammer problems caused by mechanical timers

We installed two mechanical timers on our outdoor hose bibs and loved it, but the momentary closing of the valve caused a water hammer that was very loud at times was. I read about water hammer and began to worry about damage or fatigue to my copper tubing. So I tried them and now we can't even tell when the valve closes. Not only can we eliminate the loud "thump" that made the dog bark, but it also quiets our plumbing. Attached is a photo showing a simple setup using a 90 degree angle, spark…

I would recommend this one as it has a higher capacity (higher).

I ordered this to replace the 660-H I bought a few years ago. I use it on the back of my LG washing machines which have been causing rattling in my pipes. He began to bother and the knocking returned. This version has a stainless steel flash hider, which is not silver in the photo but is actually silver. The flame arrestor is also higher than the 660-H. After the replacement the noise was completely gone. no noise Hopefully it will last longer than the old all-copper version. If you are…

They work great. but not forever

i have been using them for our washing machine (and similar with our new toilets) for over 5 years. New washing machines tend to cause water hammer (they say, of course, that this is due to the high water pressure). No matter where the fault lies, water hammer absorbers are needed. Without them, you will have to take a loud knock. and wonder how much damage is being done to your pipes. So, here's the thing: They work REALLY WELL. But at least in our house, they usually only last a few years…

Ideal for washing machines

I think they last about two years. The last pair I installed is 23 months old and is now virtually ineffective. When I first installed Sioux Chief arresters, the cylinders were copper. Then we switched to stainless steel bottles with label stickers. Their latest versions have stainless steel barrels with a laser-engraved label and date stamp. I called Sioux Chief to make sure the laser engraved versions weren't fake (they weren't!). During a conversation with Sioux Chief, it was recommended…

LG washing machine? Are the pipes knocking? You need it!

If you have an LG front-load washing machine, you'll need it on both lanes (so you'll have to order two). They're pretty neat in the sense that they also help eliminate potential kinks in the lines leading to the washing machine as they attach directly to the back of the washing machine and have a 90 degree bend to them. The hoses are then mounted perpendicular to the flame arrestors. They reduce water hammer. If you don't know what a hammer is, it's the uncomfortably loud pulsing that occurs…
