Thinking quality would be better if it was Starrett. I am a trained tool and mold maker and simply cannot meet my requirements.

Pin Vise lived up to expectations. High quality products that last a long time. and something interesting in itself. Starrett products provide a good background for evaluating other tools and devices. This exposes the mediocrity of other (mostly foreign) products. If you're thinking cheap and looking for bargains (e.g. junk), don't waste your time thinking Starrett!

I bought these to do small precision drilling - 1.5mm bits in FR4. They are high quality but not very suitable for my application. I have better holding power with the Chinese $8. It's too easy for bits to slip out of the spindle with this Starrett vise. In order for the bit to stay, you have to twist the collet with pliers, which will scratch and damage the serrated surface. They look very nice but are not functional. The cheap Chinese ones have spring loaded spindles which probably won't last
