Not even bright enough to light a tent

I didn't order these imagining they'd replace my headlamp. We just wanted something we could have in cars for emergency roadside repairs at night, natural disasters, etc. I snapped one to test and it didn't even light up our tent enough to see the sleeping bags. Not like "we couldn't read by these" but straight up you might still bump into another human being in the space if this is your light source. We'll look elsewhere.

Pros
  • Can be used to mark a trail or path in the dark
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be bright enough to see from far away distances

Just what I was looking for

Used for signalling and for establishing LZs. Colour can be seen by folks with NVGs contrasted with blue or green 'glow sticks'. Arrived on time and well packaged. Would not hesitate to order from this vendor again.

Pros
  • Provides a reliable light source during emergencies
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not work at all if they are stored improperly

High quality glowsticks

I'm deeply satisfied with the price and quality of these glowsticks. I bought the box of 24 so I could have some on hand for emergencies, but I have three kids too so I broke open three of them and passed them out. It was a good test for brightness and utility as we turned out all the lights and the kids ran around the house with them. You can read with the light from these sticks, and you can see enough of the area around you to safely travel or find what you're looking for. I don't think you…

Pros
  • Easy to dispose of after use
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be as effective in a wilderness emergency situation

Great in power outages, safe for kids

I always keep Cyalume snap light sticks in the house for power outages and sleepovers. We've had every color, but we like these yellow ones the best. The white ones are our second choice, but their light doesn't last as long. The yellow ones last up to 12 hours and we haven't had any "duds" in the pack. We bought some of the cheap ones at Walmart once, and half of them had either been snapped at the store, or they were duds. Since you won't know if they work until you snap them yourselves, it…

Pros
  • Provides a bright enough light to read by in dark conditions
Cons
  • The product may not be as useful in a medical emergency situation

Great for emergencies or camping

So I wanted some decent snap lights for my car, camper, and home. You know the drill, the power goes out and the flashlight batteries are dead because you forgot to check them. No problem, you've got SnapLight by Cyalume. These put off a nice yellow light the is plenty to illuminate a stairway or small room. Two or three can illuminate a big one enough to see obsticles and people. So why by Cymalume rather than the "cheaper" brands. First off, they aren't that much cheaper. Seriously, $3…

Pros
  • Perfect for power outages and natural disasters
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be as useful in a power outage situation

Great for Emergency Needs - Gas Leaks and Long Shelf-Life

I've used two lights. They last a fairly long time. But these are not meant to last very long anyways. They are used for emergencies - say for example if there is an earthquake, you use these because there could be gas leaks or water near electrical wires. These could also be used underwater. And lastly they are used to call attention by rescuers or so that family can find you. They really aren't used for camping because flashlights are so much more energy efficient with LEDs.So remember for…

Pros
  • Easy to use with a simple snap and shake
Cons
  • The product may not work at all if it is defective out of the package

Great performance and value.

I picked up a box of these for an upcoming camping trip. When they arrived, I popped one open and activated it to see how it worked. They put out a nice bright glow that I could use to navigate dark rooms in my house. They aren't lanterns, obviously, so don't expect them to light up the night, but they do cast plenty enough light to cast shadows and make it easier to get around in the dark. They claim to glow for 12 hours. The stick I tested actually glowed far longer than that. Granted, by 12…

Pros
  • Reliable light source in areas without access to electricity
Cons
  • The product may not be as effective if it is not stored properly

Bright emergency chemical light good for about 12 hours.

My experience has been that most of the 12 hour Cyalume products do exactly what they are advertised to do. I have used them for night SCUBA diving, cave and cavern exploration to include underwater, and in hazardous atmospheres as a primary light (non-flammable) and they produce light with almost no heat. Easy to initiate after removing the wrapper by simply cracking the vial inside the large vial and shaking. Disposal is also easy as the chemical reaction eventually dissipates and and all…

Pros
  • Ideal for survival situations where light is needed but hard to come by
Cons
  • The product may not be suitable for all ages and abilities

Yellow Chem-Lights. A must have.

Theses are not my first chem-light's. The last one's were green. This time I got Yellow chem lights. Last year, we had bad storm. My parent's lost their power and it was at night. They did have a flashlight, but they needed extra light. I gave them some of my chem-lights. They put them in the hall and the bathroom for that midnight bathroom run. They are very bright and had a very long burn time. There is no worry about batteries that might die or died in your flashlight, or fuel, with a…

Pros
  • Lasts up to 12 hours for extended use
Cons
  • The product may not be as useful in urban environments as it would be in wilderness situations

These make an EXCELLENT alternative to road flares for your car emergency kit! It was Christmas night last year when my wife ran over something on the way home from a Christmas party and got a flat tire. We both have AAA, but were stranded on the side of the road with our two little girls (one was only seven months old!) on a DARK road in an upscale neighborhood that would have probably tried to sue us for leaving burn marks on their crappy old roads! These Ultra High Intensity yellow light…

Pros
  • Can be used to signal for help in emergency situations
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be as safe as other lighting options in a survival situation

Reviewing color: YellowAt over a dollar each these are best for emergency use or as a safety light for a Halloween night. I tested one and for the first 15 minutes it gives off light equal to about 1/2 the light of a standard night light. For those roughly 15 minutes, you can read black and white about a foot away from the light source. After that the stick starts to dim to a low glow until the only visible light is of the liquid in the stick. Technically it will last 12 hours, but…

Pros
  • Non-toxic and non-flammable for safe use
Cons
  • The product may not be as easy to use as other emergency lighting options

Great for power outage or keeping track of the kids at night

I buy these for power outages and for the kids to use at Halloween. We have tried the green ones and the yellow. Yellow seems to give the brightest light. These usually last all night and into the next day before they loose their glow. I have purchased these multiple times now and have not been disappointed. I also like the fact that each individual stick is wrapped in its own sealed package.

Pros
  • Tools & Home Improvement
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be as reliable as an actual flashlight or lantern

Bad, shipping, Bad packing, Bad everything

I ordered 10 yellow Cyallume SnapLights, 10 Orange Cyallume SnapLights. Each chemical light $1.49 each. The cost was $29.80 plus tax. Chemical lights are fragile they have a small glass membrane that is used to activate the chemicals. They can in a loose bag, no padding, no peanuts, no protection at all. It's very easy to crack the membrane without activating the stick. Rough handling will crack the liquid or fracture the glass where the chemical will slowly leak out. I believe some of them are

Pros
  • Can be used as a distraction tool in self-defense situations
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be as bright as other visible signaling techniques

We just got the 10 pack of the yellow lights yesterday and they are great. We bought them mostly for Halloween and for possible use while camping but of course our four year old and I had to try one out (maybe I get to be the four year old too). It activated easily and lit up to full brightness seriously within 1-2 seconds! My son has had other cheap light up sticks or necklaces and they take forever to glow. The Cyalume was nearly instant and very bright. We activated it at 7pm last night and…

Pros
  • Glow sticks are waterproof for added durability
Cons
  • The glow sticks may not be practical for everyday use
