Less harsh, more themed version of Elder Sign

The main mechanic is the Mark of the Elder. However, my main gripe with Elder Sign is that it's very difficult. X-Men: Mutant Insurrection drops the difficulty significantly and offers a much better setting. It also does a great job of using the X-Men theme. I'm a huge X-Men fan and appreciate how deep the comic book references are to actual storylines. There are also MANY characters with lots of fun skills. And the game is much more cooperative than Elder Sign, with good mechanics to help…

Pros
  • Play as your favorite X-Men characters: Wolverine, Cyclops, Rogue, Iceman, Storm, Beast and Jean Grey!
Cons
  • Secret

Nostalgia for MAX!

I grew up watching X-Men cartoons and recently introduced them to my kids (all under 10 years old). My kids wanted to be X-Men and this game was released. It went so well with the old-school cartoon that kids got to choose their favorite X-Men for a mission. True, it's all crappy shooting and di-roll luck, but it's simple enough that they can easily play. Getting to the "boss fights" was great as they had no idea the flipped cards offered a far-reaching panoramic view when the cards were…

Pros
  • Battle across eight unique locations based on major X-Men storylines. Each storyline is filled with different challenges and enemies, which greatly increases the replay value!
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

FFG did a great job with the theme and skins. The gameplay has more advantages than other similar games like Thanos Rising. My biggest problem is with components. FFG gives you 16 characters plus 1 threat tracker base but only 7 plastic bases. $3.99 extra if you want 10 more After three games the black ink is already peeling off the bones. They don't give you enough dice to use as separate card success tokens. Success brands only make sense if all requirements on the line are met. I've found…
