Good for recording music videos on YouTube

I bought this video recorder to upload my accordion music to YouTube. The video resolution isn't great, but the sound quality is amazing. If you import the video into a good editor, you can split the audio, adjust the noise and normalize it. You might even be able to do this via the menu item in the camera (to be honest, I didn't finish reading the booklet). I know you can edit with Zoom H2 which I also own and love. The reason I bought the Q3 is because I wanted to shorten the recording…

Not exactly the best of both worlds

I liked my Zoom H2 audio recorder, although due to the lightweight plastic a tiny bit came loose from the memory card cover and had to be glued back on (Zoom doesn't seem to to offer a replacement). The Zoom Q3 cost me about the same price and claimed to have mics to match the excellent Zoom H4n recorder, so I took a bite. Those are the observations. Pros: 1. Records movies at the level of the early Flip camcorders a few years ago. 2. Controlling a camera or recording device is easier to use…

Not enough headroom to adjust audio levels

This thing has three levels of gain: Auto (which is boosted during dynamic musical performances), Low (too low to capture music in a club at a level acceptable for YouTube videos), and a large one that is cut off. The sound, recorded in a small low-gain club, is nice and clear, and I don't think it's too bright (although my test was a musical orchestra with lots of direct bass), but it's low enough that I turn had to open it. my iMac's external speakers to hear the spoken portions of the…

Great sound, fair picture

I bought the Zoom Q3 after seeing it on Revain for a very good price. My reasons for buying it were primarily to record my guitar playing, recording music at concerts, clinics etc. and also because I was fed up with recording a completely unusable sound with my (very good) Android phone. To record myself, I put a Q3 in front of my amp and record audio only, or use both video and audio if I want to watch myself later. So far I am very satisfied with the results. Sound quality reaches 96kHz…

Great device FOR MUSICIANS ONLY

So first I want to start by answering some of the people who ordered this product and wrote some negative reviews because of the supposed video quality: why not do your research before you order and get yourself then complain that it doesn't do what you expected. It's not really a handheld video camera like most people think, but actually a digital audio recorder with video recording capability. It is intended solely for people in the music industry who want to record their performances with…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Doubt
