There are plenty of projects with ambitions to be on top of the platforms for decentralized applications (dApps). As of July 2018, the undisputed leader is Ethereum. Hence, it is the main competitor and threat for Ethereum Classic. Another project that is up and running and may be considered as a key opponent of Ethereum Classic is NEO, also dubbed as the Chinese Ethereum. It is one of the few platforms that is already live and doesn’t function just on its Testnet. Pros
  • Ethereum Classic (ETC) runs on the same protocol doing a similar function, but it does have some distinct differences in its community. The 10% or so people from the original Ethereum are relatively in the shadows and are loyal to the concept of the immutable ledger. ETC primarily has value because of the speculator market, much like many of the other alt-coins out there.
Cons
  • In my opinion, Ethereum Classic didn’t have much going for it when it was simply a rebellion against the hard fork of 2016. Now that time has passed, it has begun to carve its own definitive path that stays true to the original decentralised and immutable ethos that Ethereum originally promised. With the addition of its capped supply of 230 million tokens whilst supplying all of the benefits of Ethereum, Ethereum Classic has been nicknamed ‘the Bitcoin of decentralised applications.’ However, it needs a large number of promising applications to adopt its network to gain the traction needed to excel, and if unable to do this, then it may be overshadowed by an increasingly competitive market.
