Low Purine Dog Food

I bought this dog food because my dog has had 2 major bladder surgeries over the years. Both surgeries revealed urinary stones in the bladder. The protocol for preventing urate stone formation is a low-purine diet. My vet told me that eggs are one of the lowest sources of purine protein. My dog has been eating this food for a few weeks now and loves it so far. Fingers crossed that we will never need bladder surgery again in the future.

Our Jack Russell Loves Square Egg

I was hesitant to try the completely meatless pieces but I know how much our Jack Russell loves eggs so I tried this formula. It's a big hit - Jack swallows it like it's a treat. He's usually a picky eater, so I'm glad I found one he likes so much. I have personally tried all of the new dry foods we give dogs and was amazed by the pleasant texture of this formula. Suitable for vegan dogs or people who prefer to feed their dogs vegetarian food

My dogs were more than indifferent to this piece. They ate it but I could tell they weren't thrilled because they didn't dive into their bowls like they do when they get the food they really like. It's called "meat-free" and uses eggs and whey as its main protein sources. So eggs from chickens and whey from cows. I guess it's dog food to consider if you don't like the idea of your pets eating animals. So the dog is a vegetarian. Hmm, never mind. My dogs did great with the little bag we tried…

Impressive ingredient list

This review starts with a quick comment about the SquarePet dog food line. I bought 3 small bags of SquarePet dog food. Low fat formula, skin and digestive formula and meat free formula (egg based) for comparison and I have to say I am VERY impressed with all 3 recipes. All three products start with high-quality proteins, followed by one of the cleanest ingredient lists I've seen in a dog food.
