LG 43UD79-B 43 " IPS monitor

I was looking for a large, high-resolution computer monitor that supports both a MacBook Pro and Windows 10 - with easy switching between the two. The native resolution on both systems is approximately 110 pixels per inch. So if you're using a screen with the same resolution, both systems can work without scaling and display a standard letter-sized page at roughly the right size. The Windows system supports 3D modeling (Solidworks) and embedded systems. Software development and requires a full-size DisplayPort connector. The Mac system supports PCB layout and layout (Eagle), graphic design, communications, video and accounting and requires a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 connector has both a full-size DisplayPort (2.1) connector and a USB-C connector with DisplayPort Alternate Mode support that can be easily switched between. The monitor comes with the necessary power cord and a full-size DisplayPort cable. A call to LG customer service prior to ordering confirmed that the USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode) cable would be included. The included manual also shows an image of the included USB-C cable. A USB-C cable wasn't included though, apparently not all monitors come with this cable, but no one seems to know which monitors come with the cable and which don't. The cable required is either EAD63932603 (white) or EAD63809901 (black) - both are simply called "cable, assembly" - not very critical. It took several weeks and two separate calls to LG support to resolve the USB-C cable issue, but eventually the correct cable was supplied at no extra charge. It should be noted that the Apple USB-C cable is only for "charging". cable and is unusable for video applications. Even though the description on Apple's website says "This 2m charging cable...is perfect for...transferring data between USB-C devices." , which doesn't enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode. At arm's length from the screen - 32 inches - the individual pixels simply merge and produce no visible pixelation. At 100% scaling, a letter-size PDF page appears 9 inches wide by 11.7 inches, about 6% larger than the actual page. Normal-sized text (12 pt Helvetica) is easy to read. Most magazine articles in PDF format can be read easily at 100% magnification. The monitor is big. When seated at arm's length from the monitor, the left and right edges are approximately 45Β° off-axis. You can display approximately 4 letter-size pages on the side and 2 letter-size pages top to bottom. Such a large screen allows for larger windows and can significantly reduce scrolling. Editing 3D models and CAD drawings in full screen mode is very productive. An edge of about 10 pixels is not highlighted when viewed from the extreme off-axis angle because at that angle the edge of the highlight bar is not visually aligned with the edge. pixel array. If you move your head so that it is perpendicular to the edge of the screen, all of the edge pixels are present and properly lit. This is an artifact caused by sitting so close to the monitor. If you want to see something at the very edge, just tilt your head so you can see it, or move windows and icons a little further from the edge. This is my second LG 43UD79-B monitor. The first to be made by Revain was badly damaged prior to shipment from Revain - in a perfectly intact shipping box was the badly damaged original box. The monitor has been returned. I then ordered a second monitor from another supplier, which arrived undamaged in the original box. I've been using this monitor for 2 months and it has served its purpose. The Mac system has separate speakers, so the Windows system uses the onscreen sound system, but only for system sounds. The Mac uses the monitor's USB-A ports via a USB-C cable. Connecting the cables to the back of the monitor is a PITA - a mirror and manual switching helps, but it's still tricky.
