Review on S27A950D 27" Samsung Monitor: Full HD, 3D Display, LS27A950DS/ZA by Dustin Harter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Buy for 2D, not 3D.

THIS WAS NOT PURCHASED THROUGH AMAZON. There were some issues with Amazon so I ended up ordering it from TD. the speed is 120 times per second instead of the standard 60. The displayed image will look incredibly smooth and more natural. It's also important to note that this monitor uses a DVI-D/HDMI/Display Port (google it). Your graphics card must support these connections with the cable provided, otherwise you will not be able to enable 120 Hz. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR 3D. including glasses) is very disappointing (for the price). The depth of the projected image (adjustable in the menu) can be finicky and often distorts the image indistinctly. Nvidia 3D Vision is NOT officially supported with this monitor, there are workarounds, but there are no official drivers that support 3D Vision, only AMD's HD3D works. COLOR The color from the packaging corresponds to the declared, 100% photo accuracy. Well, not quite 100%, but in my tests with x-rite we give or take around 95%, which is fine for a non-IPS panel; I dare say it's comparable to the U3011 after a little calibration. Blacks on this monitor are deep and as black as can be. The 1920 x 1080 resolution doesn't detract from the 27" in any way, contrary to the PPI rating, images and text look as sharp as my 30" screen. 2560 x 1600.2D 120HZ IS WOW Even so, this monitor is really good for 2D gaming at 120Hz and for the average consumer. desktop usage. Words cannot express how important this is for everyday use, YouTube videos do not do this monitor justice as downloads are limited to 24/30 fps like other similar video websites. The experience is very similar to switching from CRT to LCD. ; significant difference. If you are a competitive gamer, especially someone who plays FPS games, this monitor will give you an edge. Space and movement of objects in front of the monitor. This can be set to increase or decrease brightness depending on the lighting in the room. If there is no movement in front of the panel, it will turn off automatically. turns off (based on a timer with options) and turns on again when there is movement PANEL The panel is made of plastic. The base and back of the monitor are also made of plastic, but look like aluminum. Currently there is no height adjustment, VESA mounting holes, or a standard way to remove the monitor from the base. The only adjustment you can make is a tilt of about 45 degrees. The bezels are very thin, exactly 1/2 inch. After 3 hours of use, the panel still feels cool, slightly warm at the base. GRAPHICS CARDS It is important to note (mentioned above) that your graphics card must support DVI-D/HDMI/ or a display port, which can be checked simply by looking at the back of the graphics card (where the monitor is connected). In order to use this monitor, a significant number of frames per second (preferably 100+) must be produced. 120Hz must be enabled (sometimes automatically detected) in your desktop monitor configuration as well as in your graphics card menu. +Accurate color reproduction+Low power consumption+User interface (very easy to navigate)+LED backlight+Amazingly useful power saving features+Light weight+Narrow bezels+/- Possibly stylish or flashy+/- Glossy finish-No VESA mount-No height adjustment, just the Panel tilt (approx. 45°) - The monitor cannot be detached from the stand - Had to return it due to cloudiness on both corners of the screen - The battery in the glasses lasted approx. 10-15 hours, does not charge (works with button batteries) - Not recommended for a LAN environment, stable but the base seems fragile. Considerable GPU power is required to render the frames required for a full 120Hz. My original monitor had severe bleeding and clouding issues. A monitor at this price point really should have no haze and minimal bleed, if any. Overall this is a great buy and definitely an ASUS 60Hz upgrade; Regular users and gamers will appreciate it and I can say with certainty that I will not go back from 120Hz. @1kXonar XenseAX850
