Aqara RTCGQ11LM Follows and observes - my review about it

And again a smart home and again Xiaomi products. This brand never ceases to amaze me with the presence of various gadgets, especially for the "smart home" and in this review we will talk about a very important device - a motion sensor. The device is quite small in size, but such a crumb will help with the automation of various systems, from turning off or on the light to protecting the house from unauthorized intrusions, and without installing bulky security alarm systems. The operation of the

Aqara RTCGQ11LM smart home brick - my review about it

Recently I came across a review-advertisement of a new motion sensor Mi Human (Motion) Sensor 2. Without thinking twice, I went to Ali and bought it there ... Xiaomi Aqara Motion Sensor, the same, but it connects to the smart home system not via WiFi but via Zigbee, in theory, much less power consumption. I took two pieces, one inside the house, so that I could sleep more calmly, the second outside, right in front of the door at the threshold, so that the bell would ring in the house and the…

  • Without wires

Simple motion sensor with backlight

Good day. I decided to tell you about one interesting device that relatives bought for themselves. This is Aqara RTCGQ11LM motion sensor model. It looks like a fairly simple device that can become part of a "smart home". Before that, I had seen such little things only in Europe, in particular, in several villas in Beverungen, Germany. The sensor is quite convenient, and it's not just about its size. It's wireless. In addition, it can be attached to almost any surface and without much effort…

  • Compact, easy to set up, control via smartphone, cost

Great integration with SmartThings

These little sensors work great with SmartThings with Xiomi/Aqara Device Handler. They have a faster response than my Z-Wave motion sensors and this allows me to set up an automation that turns the light on and off automatically. They're half the price of most Z-Wave sensors, and their small size means they can be placed almost anywhere. So far, battery life appears to be good with the CR2450's lithium coin cells. They also report brightness values, which can also be used for automation…

Requires Hub

When attempting to install the product found that Aqara Hub is required. I checked the product description again on Revain and yes this requirement is stated but as a note at the bottom of the description. It should have been right in the description. It states upfront that it's HomeKit-compatible and makes no mention of requiring a hub. Also, the user manual requires a magnifying glass to read, and then only covers the bare minimum of basics. The site has minimal usage. I am returning the…

Works great with Home Assistant + Nortek GoControl ZUSB + ZHA

Saying nothing works great. The 170 degree range is insane, making this sensor probably the best I've seen for sale. It's also small and easy to hide. I'd like to turn off the LED that flashes when motion is detected, but that's a minor thing. It also looks very nice compared to other sensors and does not stand out in any way. The only negative is that it is a PITA to pair. But that's true of every Aqara sensor I've bought. It always takes about 5-6 reset attempts before the hub sees the…

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • The list goes on.

Ignore the negative, that's okay.

Ignore negative reviews. This is a Zigbee motion sensor that requires an Aqara hub to function. The Homekit feature is activated by the hub and gives Homekit access to any device connected to the Aqara hub. Here's how Phillips Hue (another Zigbee-based platform) implements Homekit features. It's small and has worked very well so far. Motion registers almost immediately in the Apple Home app. The sensor itself is attractive, unlike many motion sensors. It's just a small cylinder about 1.5 inches

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Does exactly what it's designed to do at a very affordable price

Works well with HomeAssistant on Pi 4 using a 3rd party Zigbee USB hub. Motion detection status is updated approximately every 2-3 minutes, motion detected after deletion is almost instantaneous. There are hardware mods that allow for faster no-motion update, but I believe they will decrease battery life, and for my use case (motion-activated light) it was easier to reduce the time it takes the light to turn on after motion must remain Sensor is deleted. However, they are still motion sensors…
