Not as shown

The item shown is not what you will get. The steel pins are black, not silver, and of poor quality in their straightness and polish. The overall quality of the product is generally not very good, the materials are flimsy and feel cheap. However, it seems to work well, but I've had better tram points in the past.

More Chinese junk

Ridiculous! The box says Made in USA and the box says Made in China. The center of the scratch tip is off-center and is black instead of silver. Clamping blocks drill through a straight wooden holder and destroy the holder. You need to use pliers to tighten the dots so they don't slip off. Complete garbage. FALSE ADVERTISING! I hope that all Chinese products will receive high tariffs so they don't flood our country with cheap garbage. I'd rather pay more for items that are proudly made in the…

Sometimes "Made in China " is good but not this time

As others have correctly described, the picture shows a much better product than the one that arrived today. I found the finish to be poor, with points sanded off center and uneven. The screws are difficult to tighten (especially the ones holding the dots in place). As they are used for rough work they will probably be good enough, but the picture shows the old (better) common trampoline tips. They are definitely not up to standard.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Price that beats the piggy bank

Will not fit most 12 " or longer rulers

First, it is difficult to find a 12" or longer ruler that is less than the advertised maximum width of 1-1/8 ". Be 1-3/16 or 1-1/4 wide. Second, only a thin 1-1/8" ruler will fit because the beveled slot that the ruler fits in is narrower. Westcott Ruler 1 -3/16" wide. I used a hacksaw to open up the beveled slots. A triangular file will also work. Before ordering, find a thin ruler that is less than 1-1/8" wide or prepare preparing to make some hacksaws.(For rulers less than 1" wide, thickness

Trammel can be used with a pencil.

The only limit to the size of the circle you can create is the length of the bar you provide. Only criticism is that the tip is smaller than a pencil. I usually use it with a pencil and point. I remove the nut holding the tip, being careful not to remove the cap and spring underneath, and then stick the wooden pencil firmly in its place. It may be better to grind the pencil to make it fit better. When I change a nut, I flip it so more thread is tighter. Beam sizes may vary. I use 3/4” x (3/4” -

Bought a new pair as the last few wore out

I bought a pair of these mounds over 30 years ago and only bought new ones after the old ones wore out. I do a lot of work where I have to plan and cut out large curved pieces to create landscapes. With these trams I'm only limited by the length of boards I have or can put together to draw a curve. (I've used them for turns up to 50ft radius). The only downside is that the pen holder doesn't fit a standard sized pen to draw the curve. I have to remove the clip and put a pencil or marker in the…

Good for the price but not outstanding.

I have used many General Tools measuring and marking tools over the years and they are good but nothing like Starrett. Grip points will do the trick but are disappointing as a little more attention to design/manufacturing could make a real difference. Upon delivery, one of the jumpers failed to hold the cue point. After a bit of research, it turned out that the spring was taking up too much room inside when fully compressed, preventing the clip from fully tightening. Removing the spring solved…
