I love the height of the door because we have big dogs and we can easily give this one 5 stars. However, I wish they were a size that wasn't as wide as the rough cutout is 15 1/2 inches which poses a problem if you plan to run it through an exterior wall where the wall codes 16 inches is . Center bolts (the door can't fit 15 1/2 inches between the bolts!), hence it only gets three stars. It would be nice if the XL model was just 3 inches taller.

Poor in windy weather

I am seriously dissatisfied with this product. It does NOT seal on the sides as stated in the description. The magnet at the bottom of both flaps catches well, but the side flaps are wide open as the magnets don't pull the flaps tight, on the contrary the sides pull the magnet up from the bottom, effectively nullifying any attempt to squeeze. There is no adjustment on the valves, so there is no way to close the gap. My video shows a light (for my area) wind of 14-15 mph and both flaps fail to…

So disappointed in Cats

We bought an Ideal Pets X-Lrg Dog Flap a few years ago. We loved this door - magnets on the bottom and sides that never flapped in a snow storm in Colorado and didn't let mice in. After about 5 ½ years we needed new doors. Went online to get them - no longer available but a 'new and improved version' was available with easy to find replacement valves. Okay, bought a new dog flap and have regretted it ever since. The flaps are weak, just the bottom magnets, and after a few months the flaps…

Gutter in the wall

I am building an insulated dog house for two dogs with air conditioning and heating. This is the door I chose because the largest size is big enough to crawl through to free or live in terrible family circumstances for a few days. Everything about this product is good except for two things: 1. The magnets are weak as mentioned by other reviewers. It doesn't really matter to me as the position of the door is away from the general wind.2. They didn't take into account where the rainwater goes…

Closes badly, bolts break.

This is a combined review of the Ruff Weather Dog Door and Wall Extension Kit. We've had it installed for about 2 months now. I noticed bubbles of color around the bottom inner hole today. I poked around in it and the drywall was wet and soft. I started taking it apart but two of the screws broke off when removing them. I used to have issues with the heads coming off easily, even when my impact wrench was on low settings. Screws are very soft cheap metal. Let's get back to moisture. It wasn't…

Works well enough for the price

First the reason for the 3 star rating; It was the only door big enough for my dog under $300. In addition to the price, the only thing I like about this door is the double leaf and the matte seal. However, I want to use an Endura brand door spring instead, and here's why: 1) The dog door doesn't fit between wall studs, so if you're installing on a load-bearing wall (like most exterior walls) you'll need to move the studs and build a collector, to transfer the load. This also includes drywall…
