Aimed at a basic, low-level user

Can't honestly rate the tech support as I've never had to use it! Installing the disk and the application to use it is very simple. This hard drive is intended for novice users who want to back up their movie and other random files. If you want to stream your own videos and shows, this system may not be for you. With the new baby, we had amassed 1,000 photos on our phones and didn't want to pay Google or Apple to store them for the next ten years at the expense of a server subscription. If your

Easy to set up Best in Data Storage

I wish I could give this product 5 stars. I'm really. It's easy to set up. It's fast, so I'm not sure why people on the forum are complaining that it's very slow. But one of the most important features is the syncing with my Dropbox account. There is nowhere in the manual how to do it. I googled and found nothing. Tech support is so incompetent. Until they fix this UX issue, I'm happy to change my rating.

The Personal Cloud is easy to set up and use

The Personal Cloud is easy to set up and use. It literally took me a few minutes to get up and start working. I use this as a Dropbox replacement - a time machine backup for our MacBook laptops at home, as well as an 'automatic' backup of my iPhone's film roll. I've tried many other devices that claim to do what the Apollo Cloud does, but none of them worked as well or were as easy to set up. If you're looking for a device that you can really "set and forget" then this is it!

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Consider another alternative like NAS.

Having used a NAS for many years, I was quite disappointed with the final setup of my 8TB Duo. Simple statements usually mean few functions. 1- I've spent many hours figuring out how to set up FTP for my duo. There is no information in the installation or setup guide. If this was a feature allowed on Dou, they would have to mention it in the manual. 2- Network Discovery. It's not on the web. When I originally installed the drive, it was available through my network or my PC's discovery. Theโ€ฆ

PS See my workarounds in the comments. The device seems to work well once you overcome these hurdles. Revisited: Without the help of the (apparently assigned) "technical support" staff, I've found workarounds for the two bugs that were bugging me (and I assume other macOS X 10.13.4 "High Use Sierra"). when mounting or using this Time Machine volume. But such a "device" does not require a NASA computer engineer with console analysis skills to function properly. However, I was able to do thisโ€ฆ
