. My photos from a long family vacation saved on a hard drive. I've used it less than 10 times under normal conditions and the hard drive stops responding. I hooked it up to three different computers, used several different connectors and cables, and the hard drive just died, leaving me hours of editing and thousands of memories that I'll never get back.

Pros
  • . Great price.
Cons
  • . So far so good.

When I bought it it was in ExFAT format and I was trying to copy one of my 16GB folders which contains 750,827 files and 20,483 folders. The drive failed to copy this entire 16GB folder to a 500GB drive. After reading a bit about ExFAT and smaller files, I reformatted them to NTFS, which only took two seconds. I was then able to copy all my files (130GB) to a 500GB Sandisk drive with no problems. In fact, this thing flies! I love it and hope it will last for many more years.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Not the best

File and data corruption after a few months of use

I've been a Sandisk fan for years and buy many terabytes of storage in many forms. I started with them in photography and I can count on their quality compared to other brands. I didn't mind paying a premium because protecting my data and files was more important. This is the first time I've had a big problem, and it's insidious. After a few months of ownership I had an issue with a file getting corrupt on save with no error message or notice. When you come back a few hours later, the file is…

5 years lost travel photos

This drive is terrible. It was stable for the first month of use, but now my Lightroom profile won't load, I can't transfer photos from it. Every action you take with the drive, be it file transfers or random hangs. I bought a 1TB hard drive and can't transfer 5GB without getting stuck at 2-3GB and just freezes completely (see attachment for errors). Lightroom cannot be opened because the portfolio freezes before fully opening. All hard drives I have in my computer work except this one. 5 years

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Speed

Amazing drive but you MUST format it

The drive itself is amazing. It's tiny, light and damn fast, really delivering on the promised 550MB/s. However, if you intend to use this drive for anything other than movies, music, and pictures, you will need to format it before using it. . This is especially true if you intend to use the drive to back up data from your phone or computer. When delivered, the drive is exFAT-formatted and has an allocation size of 1 MB. This means that each file smaller than 1MB takes up 1MB of disk space. 1MB

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Repair

I returned this 1TB SSD because it doesn't work on my computer. I believe this is a design flaw because the plugin didn't work either. The SSD works initially after being fully formatted to NTFS and then encrypted with Bitlocker. CHKDSK says everything is fine with no errors. However, as soon as it is used to move data between two computers (file synchronization), Windows 10 suddenly starts reporting errors that Windows wants to fix. CHKDSK then reports multiple disk errors. The drive is then…

  • Handy item

Super fast and super portable. - UPDATED

Super fast and super portable. With the 1TB version, I averaged 470MB/s writing and 515MB/s reading from a 2016 MacBook Pro via USB-C. The drive weighs absolutely nothing. The hole at the top is perfect for threading a carabiner through and hanging from the pull tab in my backpack. 2 problems: 1. I want the USB-C to USB adapter to be firmly attached to the cable so that the cable can be attached to the drive.2. Good luck ever registering a warranty on this thing. The San-Disk warranty…

The best USB SSD you can buy! Don't look at anything else!

In short, I needed an SSD to back up my MacBook Pro. I used to use a spinning hard drive for backups with the SuperDuper software and the process was painfully slow. It often took up to an hour to back up and restore around 500GB of data. With the internal SSD on my MacBook Pro, it made perfect sense that the target backup should also be stored on the SSD drive, where transfer speeds would increase significantly. Another thing to note: Spinning HDDs have a much higher failure rate than SSDs. I…
