Fastest USB-C UHS-II Card Reader

I have a fast Lexar UHS-II card (Lexar Professional 2000x 64GB SDXC UHS-II card) and thought I could do better than USB -C to use USB-A reader included with the Lexar card. The sequential read speed was 210 MB/s. The first USB-C reader I tried was obscenely slow, only 82MB/s for [[ASIN: B07DJT5GPT uni USB Type C / Thunderbolt 3 SD Adapter]! This extreme SanDisk reader did the best I could expect from a USB-C connection, which allows for much faster speeds: 267 MB/s. Excellent work!

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Modern

Fastest UHS-II SD card reader on the market

I tested the SanDisk UHS-II SD card reader on a 2019 16" MacBook Pro and a 2020 11" iPad Pro . In my test, I connect directly to MBP and iPad. As you go through the hub, it slows down. I moved a 2GB file from SD card to iPad Pro and 7 seconds. The card was Sandisk 300MB/sec. I got 220 MB/s with the same card in MBP. It outperformed the Apple SD card adapter by about 10-15 MB/s. So if you're looking for sheer speed and compatibility, buy one or two if you want to read more than 1 card at a time.

DO NOT BUY - serious quality control issues

I bought one of these last year and it was great. Ultra-fast data transfer speed. I accidentally forgot it at the hotel so I bought another one. It had this weird issue where it streamed at 100% and then just . Break. about 30 seconds. It would then turn back on at full speed and stop. I returned it for another. I looked through FIVE of four different sellers who had the exact same issue. Tested on 3 different computers and iPad. The only reason I went with it was because the first one workedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design

Doesn't work well with Galaxy S8

Following information from Sandisk customer service. Thank you for contacting SanDiskยฎ Global Customer Support. We really appreciate having you as part of our SanDiskยฎ family. I understand your concerns, so let me let you know that we have tested our Extreme Pro UHS-II Type-C Reader on Windows and Mac platforms only. The reader has not been tested and is not designed for use with a cell phone/smartphone interface, therefore it may or may not work as the reader requires a constant surge of power

Pros
  • Good build
Cons
  • Annoying

while - works, but. Update (5/15/2021) - NOT WORTH

Update May 2021: Every two weeks I take a lot of pictures from a V90 UHS-II card to my laptop via the USB-C port. . The supported transfer rate is the worst at 10MB/s! Although this reader claims to support UHS-II cards, which in turn allows for faster transfer speeds. read UHS-I has a higher transfer rate of 30MB/s! No matter how many gigabytes of data is transferred - the built-in UHS-I reader is still better than this reader. No ideas - but it's NOT WORTH the price and demands of a UHS-IIโ€ฆ

  • Full set
