Not what is advertised

When I opened the box I was disappointed. This flash looks very light and cheap. The power and auxiliary buttons are tiny plastic buttons that look like they're about to break. I figured as long as they didn't break, I'd be fine. handy when warranty expired, TTL didn't work, and slave mode stopped working too. In manual mode, sometimes the light doesn't burn, it's too bright/white. Out of warranty, turns on but will not charge. I was in the middle of filming and had to fiddle with the switch…

Good entry-level or amateur flash

After reading many reviews from different manufacturers I decided to buy two of these portable flashes. They are well suited for lighting amateur studios or students looking for a good price on their first set of lights. Has many elements found in professional flashes (photocell, trigger, zoom, power control, decent display) that can help a beginner with this type of gear. It also makes sense to invest in one or two of these devices for amateur portrait or product photography. If more…

Pros
  • So far I like everything
Cons
  • Requires an outlet

Good flash Flash compatible

This flash is a great accessory for the Olympus E-520. The camera's built-in flash is not sufficient for shooting in low or full light. The Bower Power Zoom syncs perfectly with the camera in Auto mode and flashes powerfully. It has a very easy-to-read LED panel on the back that helps you adjust the oscilloscope settings in various manual modes. It has a pivoting head so the photographer can bounce the flash off the wall or ceiling. In addition, it has a built-in diffuser and mirror card to…

Initial reaction: mostly good

As soon as it arrived I put the batteries in and turned it on - after a few seconds the ready light came on, and when pressed, the device blinked. So far, so good. I bought it second hand at 20% off the lowest price I could find. More good news: The build quality of the case seems pretty solid, as does the shoe mount, although the button locking mechanism seems a bit questionable. It holds the device in place quite well, I'm just not sure how long it will last. On the other hand, don't sneeze…

Solid starter flash

This is my first external flash. It was paired with a Panasonic DMC-G5 camera. So let's get a few things straight. As others have pointed out, this is no small outbreak. It's not that bad in the G5 hot shoe, but I can see it being cumbersome for some of the smaller Micro Four Thirds bodies. It whistles when charging, but I don't find it particularly loud or annoying. No stand was included, but I was never able to get the slave mode to work with the camera's built-in flash (this may not be an…

My first flash - shoe mount flashes

I didn't give it 4 stars because I dropped it and it broke. I'll come back to that later. I did a night photo shoot of my car that I sold. Used an Olympus E-P1 with a 45mm f1.8 lens (cool) and held it on a tripod. I set the exposure for a few seconds while walking around the car and manually activating the flash in my hand. The photos turned out great! Sold the car within a week. Even those who didn't buy a car emailed me and just wanted pictures. Pointer, if you want to sell your car fast…
