A Dud Print Servers

After several hours of attempts by Hawking's technical staff, this server could not be started. The latter finally gave up, saying that it was defective. That's exactly what they said about the last one I had before I was stupid enough to buy another. Another thing: because of the technical accent, they were harder to understand than usual.

Pros
  • Brilliantly Done
Cons
  • Secret

I could never get it to work

I tried everything I could but I couldn't get it to work on my printer. I tried to follow the instructions, one day it seemed like it was almost ready and working correctly, but the setup got confused and was never able to complete a successful setup.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • boring packaging

Doesn't work well with Windows 10

No matter how many times I installed/uninstalled/installed the software, it never worked properly. I kept getting the error "not in the same subnet" even though it was wrong. This wasn't my first Rodeo to install hardware/software, so I'm no stranger to setup issues. But it was like trying to use your computer without power. No matter what I did, nothing worked. Eventually I gave up and fixed my wired network. I have a Xerox Workcentre 6505DN. I never installed the print server.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Nothing here

Hawking Wireless Print Server flies!

This little box works wonders for anyone who wants to use an older printer but doesn't want the latest wireless model. My Canon Pixma IP4500 works fine on both Vista and Ubuntu Linux 8.10! The small, unobtrusive size makes it easy to hide away for wireless use. The documentation leaves a lot to be desired. So if you're not at least a little tech-savvy or don't feel like researching information on the Internet, you can get frustrated with the installation if the installation CD fails. All in all

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything's fine

Very bad - stay away (buy a print server with a better name)

They advertise it as a "carefree" wireless connection. HA! I would stay away from this product. I'm pretty good at networking and can't get it to work. The software installer can't find your network, then I solve this problem and the print server can't even find my HP7760! What's in it. Are you trying to call tech support, right? Well, on the first try I waited over an hour and gave up. Second time - called the number selected for the '24 hour' tech support option and transferred to an…

Pros
  • Large selection

Decent device, terrible documentation

This print server works very well for me on a mixed PC/Mac home network. The site's documentation and support is an absolute crap. I found that the device can be fully configured through a web browser. By default, it has an IP address of 192.168.1.250, so it's available at [.] on your local network. It supports Internet printing protocol, SMB, Appletalk(!), lpd, etc. With its utility, it is easy to setup for PC. Setup for MAC is also easy. Although every time I add a new Mac it takes me an hour

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Appearance

My device worked but required patience and some expertise

I found this print server very difficult to set up. However, if your device works and your printer is compatible, the product is really doing what it was designed to do. and play, installation without problems. If you don't know how to make changes to your router's LAN gateway and DHCP settings (among other things), stay away from this or any additional print server. Save yourself a major headache and hours of frustration and buy a router with a built-in print server (and just put up with the…

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Almost never

prints garbage or blank pages

I bought this PIN server for my local office that is completely wireless (wireless desktops - I haven't decided they are wireless but that's beside the point). Anyway, installation wasn't difficult. However, the office called me twice to say that their printer is now printing garbled code or blank pages. It can print a few good pages followed by bad pages. This is not a driver issue as they are using the same driver they used when their printer was connected to one of their desktop computers. I
