Broke after first use

I bought this to attach our EMS to a utility pole when camping. Last week was our first camping trip that I had a chance to try. It was easy to install and I added the key to my keychain. After 8 days of camping we set up camp and headed home. The key was difficult to turn. It turned but was quite heavy. The key must be turned 90 degrees to unlock. I made it about 75 degrees before the key broke. Big! Used for the first time and the key broke off. I used a cheap multi tool to cut the cable. It…

Not much of a deterrent

I've been using an old Python cable lock to secure security cameras for years. It was a reliable tool. Recently, after about 15 years of use, the lock froze and I broke the key when trying to open it. As I was very happy with the service I received from this cable I decided to purchase another one. My biggest disappointment with this cable is how small it is. It's my fault for just assuming they're all the same and not reading the description properly. When my old lock broke it took me about 15

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Almost OK

Laid on a kayak in July. In 3 months I tried 3 times to open the lock. The first time was excruciatingly difficult as the lock bites into the plastic and EXTREMELY difficult to turn the key. Finally managed to open after 10 minutes of fighting. The second time was a little easier. The third time was today. It wouldn't move. The key broke off in the lock. I had to cut the wire so I went home and got some wire cutters hoping that would do the trick. I have wire cutters. It barely touched the…

cheap key. The cable is easy to cut.

Used to attach a surveillance camera to a tree. For attaching things to trees this worked great, the cable is flexible and thin enough in diameter to fit through the trail camera mount. The 6 foot length is good, it wraps around a tree almost 2 feet in diameter. Unfortunately, the keys are tiny and thin. When turning in the cold, the key broke off in the lock. I was able to pry it out with pliers, but the lock is useless without a key. They give you a second key but I don't carry both on the…

Keeps honest people honest. Honestly!

This review relates to a cable with a Master Lock 8417D "Python". Bag but has no way to lock it or even latches or latches that you can put a lock on. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the front "leg" of the toolbox. This allows me to easily thread a Python cable (3/16" diameter) through the hole and wrap the cable around my toolbox. Once the cable is secure, the tool box lid will lock onto the cable. Simplicity itself. I don't use Python to keep my tool bag going; Rather, I want to secure the lid to…
