This gate is very modern and a welcome improvement on the wooden gate we use. We placed this gate at the base of our staircase. We have 2 1/2 years and 13 months and no child gets the door open. I'll start by saying that the manual was a bit difficult to read. Some of the words were printed in gray on white paper. It was very difficult for my husband to read. Having had three boys interested in everything, we've been through our fair share of baby gates, from cheap wooden gates to this one (the nicest we've ever had. I mean visually).
