Doesn't work anymore after 1 year!

Bought 1 year ago and the thermostat has been great so far. It no longer provides enough voltage to the air conditioner and the air conditioner stops working. Had to call an HVAC technician to see what was wrong and they diagnosed and confirmed the problem was with the Nest (plugged in a different thermostat and it worked fine, also connected the wires directly and the system worked fine). I'm not sure if this is the result of a firmware update or not. However, trying to get help from Nest…

The brass nest is beautiful and functional

Yes I'm another Nest gig to be proud of and I never look back! This is amazing for my forced air gas heating and cooling system here in Texas. The weather here changes seasons in a single day during the winter months, so having a thermostat that automatically switches between air conditioning and stove is amazing to me. revenge Neat comes with a very cheap plastic board that will look awful. If you spend $200-$250 on a nest, spend another $20 on a plate. (see photo)

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Only available in black

DO NOT DO THAT. EASY. NOT.

The thermostat worked fine for 6 months then I woke up in a cold house and the message 'LOW BATTERY' appeared on the thermostat. I took the thermostat off the wall, charged it via the USB port and hung it back on the wall. It worked, but only for about an hour, and then the low battery message appeared again. I found an article where there is a known software update issue causing this - support was disinterested and didn't offer any help. Now I have a $250 piece of junk hanging on my wall…

HAPPENED ON A COLD NIGHT

The first 2 months seemed to be going well. But now that the temperature has dropped to around 0, it has NOT HAPPENED! I woke up at 6am the day after Christmas in a cold house while the overnight low was -1 and there was a no power error in my nest. I went through their troubleshooter and couldn't solve the problem. I submitted a support request and after submitting it was told to call. So I called their support and got stuck in an automatic loop that eventually just took me back to their…

  • Some little things

At first I was impressed with my nest. The more time I spent studying it, the more good opportunities I found. Then the problems started two months later. My home is in the colder climate of northern Michigan. While in Florida I checked the condition of my nest. The nest did not require heat, and the temperature dropped quickly. I called the nest technicians who were polite and helpful. They said my outlet is connected to a heat pump which I don't have. It's just impossible. The nest actually…

My stove builder no longer recommends Nest

The other day I was shocked to hear that the person who suggested I buy a Nest thermostat and installed it 2 years ago said they no longer have it recommends. He told me he had six rejections last year. My own Nest worked great for 18 months, but then it was decided that my fan and humidifier should run 24/7. Not the end of the world, but I wasn't in town. Another point of failure and I would freeze, burst pipes or maybe have 150 degrees inside. I contacted Nest and after a long conversation…

Not quite what you would expect

So I live in the Southeast where the summers are harsh and the winters are colder than you think. We experience wild temperature swings that keep energy consumption quite high during the peak months of the summer and winter seasons. I figured it might help save some expenses so decided to give it a try. While others have explained a lot about what this system does, let me tell you what it DOESN'T do. I work regularly, my husband too. We leave the house with a difference of 15 minutes and come…
