Works great when positioned correctly

Our new car didn't have the dimmable mirror with compass like our old car and I really missed the compass feature. It would cost a few hundred dollars to replace the rearview mirror, so I decided to try this simple compass. It's easy to read and works great if you find the right position on your windshield - that's the key to reading accurately! DOESN'T WORK, DO NOT BUY

I saw a lot of reviews saying it didn't work before I bought it and I figured maybe these people just didn't know what this type of compass was supposed to be like work. I've had this compass in several cars so I'll be fine right? I thought $6 was a small risk. Sure enough, I've got mine, and it always says I'm going west, even when I'm heading straight for sunrise. Everything I expected.

Many reviewers don't seem to understand how a compass works. The magnet in the compass aligns with the earth's magnetic poles to indicate the direction of the earth's poles. The magnet in the compass is also attracted to the iron of a nearby metal object or magnet. The Earth's magnetic poles are weak and they are currently weakening and even tipping over on a very rare occasion. Depending on where you live, the magnetic poles can be even weaker.
