Review on πŸ”Š PCM, 5.1 Digital & DTS Supported Optical SPDIF Toslink/Coaxial Digital to Analog Audio Decoder Converter by Steve Brethorst

Exactly what I need

Just received the Samsung Q70 TV. I like the TV, but it doesn't have an analog audio output like most modern TVs. The problem is I need to be able to play audio through my headphones (no Bluetooth) and the Vizio soundbar at the same time. The only option is to use the optical output and connect the cable to the splitter. From the splitter I send one line to the soundbar (or a suitable A/V receiver that accepts an optical input) and the other line to the D/A converter, to which I connect the RCA headphone jack. Perfect right? no Until I found this converter the best I could get from this arrangement was PCM sound. This is because this old converter (and most others on the market) requires you to set your TV's audio output to PCM. Dolby 5.1 cannot be used, which means that the signal to the soundbar is also limited to PCM only. , with this new converter I can have the TV deliver the best possible signal from the content I'm watching (PCM or Dolby 5.1). This device then automatically tunes into that input and instantly converts it to an analog stereo signal that I can plug into my headphones. Headphones are plugged in either via RCA jacks, or via a 3.5mm headphone jack, or both jacks at the same time connected time. And my soundbar can achieve the best optical digital sound quality at the same time. Wonderful! The device has worked flawlessly so far. The sound quality is excellent with both headphones and the soundbar. Installation is very simple and there is constant work going on behind the scenes. I wish TV manufacturers would continue to offer an analog audio output option so I could use that and the HDMI ARC feature to power the soundbar and headphones at the same time. . However, since this is unlikely, this is the best alternative solution I've found.

Pros
  • plug and play. Support US power adapter. Note: 1. This item does not support 7.1 audio. 2. Please switch the right channel you need by pressing the "SPDIF/COAXIAL" button on the side of the product. 3. You need to push the cable a little harder than you are used to. You should hear a "click" when you've connected correctly.
