Review on πŸ“‘ Outdoor SMA Connector ADS-B 1090 MHz Antenna by AirNav by Shawn Xayamonty

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Almost zero reception. a bare piece of wire would be better

Maybe I got a defective device. I replaced the usual short antenna that picked up signals 30-45 miles away, but figured I could up my game by incorporating a special outdoor unit. I placed it outside, just above the roofline, in the same spot (actually a bit higher thanks to the longer cable) as the old one and fired up my 1090 dump. Well, he could only pick up some signals from about 5 miles away. The? I hooked up the old antenna cable that's in there now and immediately saw the number of planes being tracked jump up. and this stump was now in my metal roof construction. Spring, Babe - I connected this antenna to my HackRF and used SDR# to show 1090MHz and it's just really weak - just a terrible signal compared to what I'm seeing at the waterfall, even with a cheap variable length antenna . I'll be returning this and probably going for the FA model. I was hoping it would be good enough and liked that it came with a cable, but in hindsight that could be his fault - the permanently attached antenna could be to blame and/or it's too long by that much to dampen. that it loses any gain added by the antenna. With the FA model, of course, the cable is purchased separately, but you can get the length you need and get a quality cable if you need it. Instead of 25 feet, whatever the cable, I probably only need about 15 feet, and I can just go with the LMR-400 because of the low losses. I'll be returning this and probably going for the FA model.
