Description of ATD Tools 3310 Thermostat Wrench

The GM Thermostat Wrench is designed to work on GM 3.1 and 3.4 L V6 engines years 1994 to current; The wrench is a 13mm, 12 point with special bends specifically for GM V6 thermostat housings. A common job on these motors is thermostat replacement. To do this you must remove the thermostat housing and in these applications the bottom-housing bolt is almost inaccessible without removing other parts - until now. GM thermostat wrench with its unique shape and design will allow users to remove and install the housing in a fraction of the time it currently takes. The wrench is a 13mm, 12 point with special bends specifically for GM V6 thermostat housings.

It didn't work, it seems pointless.

Purchased to replace the thermostat on a 2002 Buick Rendezvous with GM 3.4L (the thermostat is located behind the exhaust manifold bypass pipe). Doesn't work in this application.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Will not fit all

Works in tight spaces

There is a screw for replacing the thermostat on a 2000-2005 3.4L Impala that will require this wrench to remove. This key does the trick. This still takes a long time due to the limited turning radius in the tightest of spaces, but allows the bolt to be removed.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Obsolete model

May work on some models but not Impala

Works on 2004 Chevrolet Impala 3.4L Yes they had good intentions but they won't go. No room to turn the wrench, its maximum force against the exhaust and engine components, had to be either longer or bent another 90 degrees, and at least one ratchet end of the wrench. It's better to use curved wrenches for the price and get the whole set. needs to be regenerated.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Nothing here

Worse than USELESS for 2005 Buick Rendezvous

Worse than USELESS for 2005 Buick Rendezvous. Don't buy that for this car. Hours will pass, damage will occur, and the thermostat will still be cozy in its eternal home. (Hint: Remove the throttle body, heater inlet/outlet pipe, attached hoses, air filter and electrical connections. It's ten times faster than trying to get that torture wrench to work.)

  • Best in Niche

An effective answer to myopic engineers

I wish the handle was longer but I won't complain, I ended up putting a cheat bar on the handle and it easily broke the lower thermostat housing. It was difficult to get to the bolts, but that's due to the exhaust, not the design of the key. If you have a GM car with a 3.1L/3100 engine you absolutely need this key, I needed it for my Buick Century, it only took me half an hour to do a 3 hour job.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Nearly Perfect Best Tool Kit

If you own a Monte Carlo and don't want to pay a mechanic a crazy price to replace a thermostat, this is a must have tool! It required some minor modifications (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) but it helped and saved us from having to pay an outrageous price to replace the thermostat. I would also suggest getting help from someone with very small hands if you want to try this job yourself. Not an easy task on this machine. But without this key it would not be possible.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Slightly Torn

MUST HAVE THE KEY!

This wrench is absolutely necessary to replace the thermostat in some GM vehicles like my 1997 Buick Century as the location of one of the bolts is ridiculous. I bet Buick made replacing the thermostat difficult so people would have to take their cars to the dealer for repairs where they would surely beat them on price. 1/2" pipe over wrench handle for added leverage which should help. Mechanical advantage always wins!

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons

Saves time and nerves

The tool worked well and helped a lot with the car repair. The car I used it on was a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with a 3.4 liter V6 engine. This significantly reduced the time spent on car repairs. As I'm looking for something I get to where the engineer decided to place a common part that needs to be replaced. exhaust manifold. I've been a mechanic for 13 years and have been involved with cars since I was 17. Your knuckles will be glad you bought this tool.
