Was hoping this box would work as an RFID box.

I was hoping this box would work as an RFID box to leave car keys overnight. Vain. When I got to the side of the car, the door was still open. Spring. Maybe I can find another use for it.

    Large Project Box RF

This is a great medium sized aluminum box from BUD. The surface is made of polished aluminum and looks great! It feels high quality throughout. There is no optional mounting plate included for mounting. But it comes with the screws needed to attach the cover. This is a great box for RF shielding and other projects. Good price too!

Robust construction. unthreaded except for screw holes

I used this box for an electronics project that required chassis grounding. The metal isn't anodized, which is good since it's conductive. However, the screw holes are not tapped at all, which poses a huge mechanical risk. Otherwise solidly built, but the lack of screw holes is a big bummer.

    Good boxes in electro boxes

The box is a typical nice strong aluminum box. My only complaint was that the screw holes in the box weren't perfectly cut or the screws themselves were a bit imperfect from having to seriously unscrew them the first few times they were inserted. The screws basically had to cut the threads. Now everything is in order!

    Reliable, inexpensive, easy to use

I made a Raspberry Pi Zero, HiFiBerry Hat, Volumio audio player that plays from a local or internal folder on USB sticks with over 500 albums in it FLAC format. An external antenna increases the range. The 5V buck converter allows you to use any power source from 5 to 34 volts. The screw holes are unthreaded, but the included mounting screws do their job well as they're tougher than softer aluminum.

    • Nice packaging

    • Don't really like it, it's ok

Nice box for a project!: Electro boxes

Need a box for a ham radio project and it fits. I had to have a metal box for RF shielding. The metal is easy to drill and fairly soft. The sides taper slightly towards the hole, probably to help pop it out of the mold when it's done. It's not a problem for me, and if you don't look closely, nobody will notice. Keep this in mind when putting it in a drill press to make holes in the sides. I will buy more if needed!

    Pros
    • Decent performance

    • Big and bulky

Beautifully finished - strong, clean and functional

BUD Industries Aluminum Econobox CU-234 seems anything but 'save'. It has been beautifully formed/machined and feels, looks and performs like high quality aluminum. Mating surfaces were flat and even, all holes perfectly aligned; Threading was smooth and even, the included screws were fine - again clean and smooth. The light brush finish looks beautiful when your application leaves it open - no visible scratches or surface contamination. good piece

    Screw holes are unthreaded

Unless I get 2 weird examples in a row Bud seems to ship these boxes with screws and the screw holes are molded but the screw holes are not cut. Hammond boxes do not have this problem. The box looks just as good as the competition, well fitted and finished but lacks threaded screw holes. Even the Chinese have threaded holes. I don't like the idea that I have to do the finishing for them and could even break the screw if I'm not careful when tightening the screws enough to tap the threads…

    Expensive but perfect every time

I put two of these in different roles and the lids definitely switch places. I know it's a small thing, but I ordered them months apart. They are very accurate in size and the material is perfectly smooth. This isn't some crappy standard project box, they're ready to go in the field as soon as they arrive. No ridges to smooth, no thin spots, no cheap metal (they're aluminum). These are definitely boxes for industrial projects. I would say you can drive over them and they won't get crushed. I…
