Readings were inaccurate

Mine was not accurate which could have been bad if I hadn't noticed. I have a reef aquarium and the hydrometer reads 1.024. Took a water sample at the local fish shop and the refractometer read 1.029. There were no bubbles during the test. It is always rinsed with fresh water before and after

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak

!REFERER! NOT WORKING PLEASE BUY A REFRACTOMETER

I diluted the salt for 24 hours and when I went to read it said it was 1.014 sg so I added more salt. I came back a few hours later and when I checked again it was still 1,014 cg. I knocked out the air bubbles both times and it still doesn't change. IF YOU FIRST TIME STARTING WITH A SALTWATER TANK, PLEASE BUY A REFRATORMETER. Save and spend that extra $10 so you don't have to worry about it.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Not suitable for carp ponds

I bought this cheap and easy to use device for my carp pond. I wanted to keep it under 6 ppt. I followed the salt recommendations but decided that after adding 2 cups to my 2500 gallon pond (so very little) I would measure it along the way to be sure. I didn't expect it to be 6 ppt already. I'm freaking out! I went to the aquarium shop to have them check the salinity with their fancy devices. I her test came up with zero. Relieved but irritated. This thing is completely useless to me.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • old
