🌿 Woodland Baby Sampler Cross Stitch Kit - Design Works Crafts, 12 x 13 inches Review

I'm quite an experienced embroiderer but this set took me hours to match the threads to the characters. What helped a bit were the links to the DMC numbers, but half the threads in the kit are very different from the links.

Cross stitch for my 7th grandson. The kit is simple, but first enlarge the pattern on the copier to better see the thread color information. Enlarge the list of characters and attach them to the cards with thread. Write a symbol next to each thread color to avoid mistakes. This design is amazing and easy to make if you follow the steps above.

I have been working with cross stitch for 35 years and this is one of the worst kits I have ever worked with. The pattern is difficult to read, very faint in places, the symbols of the pattern are difficult to see because the same symbol is used repeatedly simply by changing direction. The thread is the worst, it has been knotted and snapped many times. The colors are off too, purple is blue compared to the advertised DMC color. I will never buy this brand again.

The pattern is not printed very dark. Icons are not standard, but will suffice. The floss is an all purpose floss and the instructions say to wash it before use to avoid bleeding so I switched it to DMC. I will also replace if one color runs out, I can take another one that fits perfectly. The fabric is very durable. I want to replace it before launch. It's a beautiful pattern and now I know why the price was so low.

I like the overall design and I think the thread quality is good. Some are thinner than others, which doesn't make much sense, but they don't look any different when sewn together. However, the pattern could be better. It's very small and quite difficult to read. The symbols could also be more varied and not hand-drawn in key. I have been doing cross stitch for many years. I bought this kit to sew a friend's new baby; the pattern looked cute and i liked the border. The kit was sealed when I received it. The threads were, well, not of the best quality; They bind easily and don't feel as smooth as DMC, but I'm turned on. I suppose it would be possible to change the threads with DMC, but then why pay for a kit? The chart/grid is REALLY hard on the eyes (and even more so on the BRAIN). The project is cute but once you open the packaging and try to work on it the kit itself is TERRIBLE. The color key gives hand-drawn characters instead of the same printed characters that appear in the template itself, which would be nice if some of them weren't so sloppy. Black and white instructions/template. The template is printed in one font and the characters are easily distinguishable from each other. However, the key is handwritten and some of the characters in the key can be easily confused if you are not careful.
