Extremely poor workmanship

The mating flange looked as if it had been punched out by stone chipping and was as uneven as a swing rider. I managed to save him after flashing. But for $54, it's a shame.

Pros
  • Ease of use
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Came warped, I had to file. Read please!

Slow fix in 5 minutes. The gasket mating surface was warped and needed to be cleaned with a file. It only took 15 minutes to cut this thing off. Find the removal procedure on YouTube without removing the distributor.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Only available in black

This method saves you $ and steel doesn't break like factory plastic

A big improvement over the plastic air intake that always breaks over time, steel beats plastic every day. A bit of extra work but really not much more than replacing the air intake, plus it's cheaper than another air intake and the car will never have this problem again!

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Great fix for the GM bug.

I don't understand why GM didn't do it from the factory. When we installed this on our 2001 Saturn SL2 we used Permatex on both sides of the gasket to ensure there were no leaks. It's been over a month and no leaks. Much better than the plastic pipe that comes from the intake manifold. You will need to remove the intake manifold to make the modifications needed to install this vertical pipe.

Pros
  • Good grades for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Negative present

Saved my Saturn! for repair kits

Of course I drive a Saturn with a PLASTIC intake manifold! Who does it? Anyway, my dad removed the punctured part that was leaking along the seam where the plastic was glued - imagine! - and put it in place. It was tedious work, but that's the beauty of these post-sale items! My Saturn drives like a dream and the coolant won't leak anymore! Hooray!

Pros
  • Annual trial period
Cons
  • New competitors have emerged

Be prepared to sand the base if it's uneven.

YouTube has a video on how to adjust this item with the engine off. Make sure you have an oscillating cutter, I've tried a dremal tool, won't work. A cheap Harbor Freight oscillating knife sliced through the plastic header like a hot knife through butter. If I had used the right tool, this would have been a 20 minute project. The problem with this part, and why I'm not giving it a five star rating, is that the base isn't level. Tried sanding by hand. Unfortunately I didn't make it flat enough…

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

The item came to me SHORTER FROM THE FACTORY!

I don't normally write reviews but I felt it was important to review this part. I wish I could just go to my local NAPA auto parts store and buy this part instead of saving $20 and ordering it online. It arrived deformed but of course I couldn't tell until I installed it and the Saturn was still leaking fluid. I took it to Smyth Automotive and they confirmed it was deformed and cut it out for me. I reinstalled it and now it works fine. But it was a headache taking the car apart and reassembling

Emergency Repair Kit Lifebuoy

It worked perfectly. I was very unsure if not removing the manifold was a good thing or a bad thing. As a mechanic I decided to try it without removing it and I did it successfully, although I think removing the header is much safer I didn't want to risk damaging anything or running into additional problems. times, but you have to be very careful with the EGR pipe just below, which I took off and tucked underneath. It's a little tricky to cut off, but it can be done if you don't dig too deep…

  • Easy to read control panel

Saturn Coolant Leak Repair Part

The Saturn SL2 intake manifold is made of plastic and for reasons I don't understand the manifold water outlet and bypass port are molded in the same part as the intake manifold. Boiling hot water under pressure, plastic parts, 200,000 miles and seventeen years is not a good combination. This little device, combined with a YouTube video showing how to fix the manifold without major disassembly of the engine, solved the problem and our little Saturn is happily back on the road with apparently a…
