Fiebing's Edge Kote - Brown Leather Edge Color Coating - 4 oz Review

I purchased this product to repair my purse strap and it has not given me the results I was expecting. The edges were quite frayed, and even after they were smoothed out, the edge of the kote made the frayed area hard and uneven. The color didn't quite match the one on my bag either. After drying, it became shiny and the edge of my bag was dull, so it was a failure for me. The only positive thing is that it was easy to use.

Very happy with this item! I have several designer bags and over time the icing on the edges of purses and bags has worn and cracked. Follow the instructions and the product and did a great job fixing those worn cracked spots. I didn't want to send my bags/wallets to the manufacturer or have those edges "fixed" by the manufacturer for hundreds of dollars, it was a quick, efficient, and inexpensive solution.

This product works great but is too orange. I would have to mix this with other edge colors to tone down the orange in this product as it doesn't mix well with the color of normal leather items you might use it on like boots, shoes or a handbag unless it was very orange brown . The product is good and works well but needs a better shade. I think you can mix kote border colors to mix colors that work.

This product perfectly conceals imperfections on leather handbag handles. The slightly bad review is because I read somewhere that this product is great for restoring a missing wallet handle finish?! No matter how many layers you use, this product will not thicken to match the thickness of the rim around the purse handles. Don't believe Youtube etc. Finally, this product smells a bit strong when applied. Make sure you have a well-ventilated area.

Superb edge work. I've been using this product since 1968. The formula just got better. However, they should carry a sign: NEVER SHAKE. The liquid contains binder compounds that "set" (e.g. cling film) when exposed to air. This is how it gets its glossy shine. When you shake it, the air bubbles make this component hard, it settles to the bottom and reduces the viscosity, which makes the edges need more edge paint to get the same effect, ie multiple applications. Use a stir stick and don't beat.

I managed to trim the frayed purse straps by applying several coats with a cotton swab and removing the excess with rubbing alcohol. I use this to repair the edges on two leather purse handles, the Tignanello and Lis Clairborne.
