Maybe that's not the point.

The replacement was identical to the original and was easy to install but didn't solve my problem. It took too long to fill my toilet. The solution was to remove the entire valve assembly and remove the spiral liner from the inside of the tubesheet (insert a curved mandrel into the hole where the waterline connects and pull it out). This thing is about 1/2 inch in diameter and 1 inch long. It's rubber and I think over the years it will get sticky and stop water from moving around. The toilet…

Instructions are incomplete, read on.

Here are the full instructions: Have a cup ready. Turn off the water supply. Flush the toilet. First, lift the lever protruding to the right of the cover. While holding the lever up, turn it and the cover counterclockwise to lift and remove. The cap may need to be pushed down when turning. Remove the old gasket. To remove dirt, hold a cup over the spot and briefly turn on the water. Replace the valve seal with the flat side up. To install the cap, align the lever with the water tube, push down…

Super cheap and easy solution - 100% recommended

After realizing my previous seal was torn in two (center nipple and surrounding seal) and replacing it with this product, my toilet works perfectly . Very happy and pleased with the cost and ease of installation. If your toilet is hissing and/or slowly filling, diagnosing the valve isn't difficult and there are plenty of videos online on how to do it. Warning: Do not bend the metal bar in the top cover assembly. If you bend it, it will most likely break, and then you will have to replace the…

This part can help you avoid a trip to the plumber

This great value Fluidmaster 242 is a simple little part that's prone to funny squeaks and leaks as it ages. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLATION and watch the old one when you remove it! Make sure you turn off the water before opening the top of the Fluidmater! Make sure the faucet in the wall stops all water flow. Mine didn't, but a little spray on me was worth the effort. Whatever you do, read the instructions! Don't wear it backwards! And be careful when inserting that little pin into…

This is a simple fix for a Fluidmaster fill valve that won't shut off.

This is the perfect replacement for a Kohler (Fluidmaster) Series 5 inflation valve with a Kohler 83143 seal. It is actually made by Fluidmaster and uses the same seals as them. I also ordered a genuine Kohler seal in case there is a difference. My toilet is probably 7 or 8 years old and has reached the point where it won't turn off. I cleaned the original seal several times, which helped at first. This new one works great. The old gasket looked perfect but I think it has hardened a bit over…

Noise problem solved!

I've had a whistle/whistle for a while. I tried to fix it by rotating the valve, even cleaned the valve seal. But all the fixes only lasted a few days. The whistle kept coming. After reading dozens of reviews, I was led to believe that I had to replace the entire valve, which worried me greatly. Then I came across this valve seal. I ordered both - a fill valve and this little valve seal. I was curious if printing would suffice. Considering the low price, I decided it was worth experimenting…

Note so you understand you need this part and not the entire inflation valve

I'm not a plumber. novice master. The toilet filled very slowly over several months. I adjusted the fill valve by simply pushing it down and counterclockwise (no water). So if a piece came loose, I really cleaned it first and put it back in place. I learned this part from a simple YouTube search. It worked, but only for half a day, and the water slowly began to rise again. On the next lap I turned it upside down and the water filled up very quickly but didn't stop filling. It told me that would

Still Out to School

I say I love it because I don't want to knock anything out that I haven't used. I had an issue with one of my toilets that uses this type of washing machine. So I bought it online thinking it would be the replacement I needed. But then, after removing, cleaning and reinstalling the original, it worked perfectly - and has continued to work for several weeks since purchasing this replacement Fluidmaster 242. I can tell you one thing: this is the way to go when it comes to storing a leaky toilet.…
