Best piece of shit for external SSDs

This product is a piece of shit. There are these silly little three pages of pictures that say plug this in and it will work well it won't work my new windows 10 laptop can't see the drives. There is no support, only sends you emails with links. If you have any questions, I return this garbage

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • No insurance

died 7 months later.

I don't understand how this thing can have less load than me. All I've used it for is backups - no heavy downloads/downloads, no moves, no wipes, nothing. Bought in May 2019 and on December 30th it was dead. I'm waiting for a response from Seagate but Revain says my warranty expired last month. VERY disappointed, I have other G-Technology drives that have been fine but have had them longer. It's such a disappointment.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • Too long to wait

A bit loud. minimum instructions.

Drives are a bit noisy, but not unbearable. I often wonder what it does when it makes a lot of noise, but I don't read or write on it at all. The product came with a simple instruction manual (quick start guide consisting of icons only). There was absolutely nothing about how to change the RAID type (it's set to 0) and/or how to encrypt it. I finally found the information I needed on their website, although it took a long time and wasn't that clear. 2 lines and a link in the quick start guideโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Power outlet required

Not that noisy and easy to set up

I have a competitor RAID that is only 1T (Raid 1) and I needed 3T for my videos; so I have 8T which becomes 4T in RAID 1. I like that G-Tech uses MAC first. It's easy to reconfigure from the included Raid 0 to Raid 1. I was tired that the configurator (just downloaded from the G-Tech site) was giving problems on 10.15 but worked fine. Some have complained about the noise, but it's quieter than my other RAID. It has an enterprise-class fan and drives (which prioritize reliability over noise), so

Difficult to set up and no instructions

I bought this unit for a RAID 1 mirrored drive Most of these drives have dip switches to set the RAID status. Software is required to set up this device and there are no, and I mean zero, instructions for setting up this drive. I had to find a video on Youtube and spend a lot of time looking for software and setting up the device. After setup, the Mac didn't recognize the device and had to use Disk Utility to erase the drive. Not user friendly at all and requires a certain level of technicalโ€ฆ

THE SETTING IS NOT USER FRIENDLY - Will not be configured as RAID

I am a very experienced Mac user. (30 years old) I know how to set up hard drives. I use Final Cut Pro. I am a high level PC user. I have several G drives that work fine. I had to upgrade to RAID. There are no instructions for this disc. This is not intuitive. I found a YouTube video with step by step instructions but the G-Drive website has changed. I'm smart enough to figure out how to download the G-Drive app. It crashes every time I try to format the drive to RAID. (See image.) I foundโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something else

I've been a fan of G-Technology since I bought my first G-Drive in 2012 when I started photography. About 4 years ago I started making videos and found G-RAID to be lightning fast, perfect for editing videos from a RED digital camera. Reasons why I like G-Raids/G-Drives: 1) very easy to use. Simply unpack in the truest sense of the word. connect cable. Turn on the power. Copy the files to the device. Easy. Easy. Easy. 2) You don't fail. I have some very expensive clients, many of whom areโ€ฆ

Great external drive, solid build and fast (and yes, a bit noisy too).

I bought this 12TB G-Raid external drive to store my large collection of photos, videos and network cloud drive. It's attached to the new iMac Pro, and in practice, a decent chunk of what I do is professional. After a few weeks of use, my first impression is that this is a very good external drive. I don't feel like it slows down workflow or doesn't keep up with the computer. Only time will tell how it performs after heavy use and this is obviously a big factor in the final ranking. A fewโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Functionality

Be careful if you are a Windows user. Setup can be a bit confusing and the instructions on the G-Technology website are almost non-existent, or you'll need an engineering degree to understand them. My salvation was my 15 years of experience in IT. For Thunderbolt to work I had to update the BIOS, drivers and Thunderbolt control application. If you're using this with a laptop, you may need to change the power setting under "USB Root Hub Power Management" in Device Manager. I had to change it soโ€ฆ

Pros

Yes and no โ€“ note the limitations of this device!

Been using it for about 2 weeks so take it with care. Pros: - Relatively small compared to other RAID setups - Easy to manage (with G-RAID software controller and Disk Utility) - Customer support via G-Tech is prompt and helpful when needed - Very fast - Build quality is very good - Stay cool - daisy chain! Cons: - Very noisy. It's always buzzing and clicking. It was pretty tough at first, but I'm getting used to it. Sometimes the noises are a bit annoying and quite disturbing. If you have aโ€ฆ
