A few years ago I made one out of a gravity trough and added a float. Eventually I got tired and wanted to build another one. Then I came across this drinker. That works great! The float was even adjusted to the correct height.

I don't know what to think. I bought this for my belly pigs (150 pounds each). It was easy to install, but the pigs are afraid of it. They start drinking and the water starts flowing and they run! 🐷🐖 I'll leave it for a while, I hope they get used to it.

Unfortunately the float system doesn't work very well. The bowl is only about a quarter full, and then the hand isn't sensitive enough to move down when the bowl is completely empty. I live in South Texas and bought this for my chickens who need constant water to stay hydrated. So for me it's pretty much useless as I have to lower the float several times a day when I realize it's empty.

I honestly can't tell you if this thing works. The illustrations show a hose to connect the drinker to a water source. Not true. I have not received any. I wouldn't spend a few bucks more for the convenience of having this thing actually out of the box. So now I have to continue my old method of watering animals until I can go into town and buy a stupid hose. Thank you for almost meeting my needs.

So the fountain itself is great. The float works fine after some fiddling and the stainless steel is better than my old plastic. BUT. You can't use it straight out of the box. If you use a garden hose (like most of us) the end you attach it to is the pin end. The drinker's end is also male, and they will never run together. Had to run to the hardware store to buy an adapter which is quite annoying considering it probably should have been part of the package.

We love them for our farm animals! Bought from a local farm and loved it! At first I found it difficult to tighten the plastic nut around the float body because it was too close to the bowl. But I found out. The horses loved it and everyone was happy for a few days until somehow, which remains a mystery to this day, the threads on the float snapped and the hose (which we had to buy separately) was attached. These drinkers don't last forever so a second float valve is a great solution as the stainless steel bowl never needs to be replaced. I had one of these waterers for my 15 hens until the float valve finally failed and luckily I found that it wasn't supplying water! You can screw it to a wooden fence or wall, but I just dug up some dirt and it didn't move. There's a Bergen drinker that I like best for only $12! Made in the USA too! it was well made but the float even though you get two leads me to believe they won't last very long... Must include a fitting for US standard hose. A quick trip to the hardware store fixed the problem, but I had to run PVC cord from the float inlet to the brass fitting, which I had to buy to make it work!
