Great Pet Door!: Doors, Gates & Ramps

I bought this pet door over 5 years ago and now that I'm moving and looking for a new one I wanted to say this has lived here and has mine exceeded expectations. It is used very often with a small dog and 4 cats and is holding up great. The valve is still strong and does not leak. Can't comment on the installation as I installed it expertly into my plastered wall, but it's solid and I haven't had a single issue with it.

Perfect solution to keep unwanted larger animals out

I needed a solution to replace a large pet door that would allow my cat to enter the kennel without letting the raccoons in. I was tired of catching raccoons and worried that my cat would be herded into the kennel. Mounted it higher on the wall and added shelves on either side so the cat could jump up, land and enter the building. Apparently raccoons can't jump. Good luck so far! Also, I have a big cat. A Maine Coon that lives indoors and outdoors and blends in well with his winter coat.

This product has received great reviews but we are very disappointed

This product has received excellent reviews but we are very disappointed. The doors stick to the weatherproof coating and one of the magnets doesn't lift, so the doors won't close after the cat has passed. After purchase I see in the very long FAQ section on the product page that some others have had to attach magnetic strips and do other DIY modifications to fix these issues, but this is not necessary given the cost of the product! At this point it's too late to return it and I can't find the…

    • Great for outdoor activities
    Cons
    • Not bad

The problem with this door is that the wings often get stuck half open. Too much friction between the flaps and the brush sides for the flaps to close every time. The magnets are not strong enough to fully close the doors unless the bottom metal part of the door barely touches the magnet. To make matters worse, the colder it gets outside, the stiffer the wings become, and the likelihood of them staying open is even higher (even to the point of a wing being pushed inward, causing the other…

Great design for smart pets, stupid ones need training!

I bought two of these and the only reason they don't have 4 stars is because our animals are not that smart and the reason they work in them in the winter consists that it is difficult to use them for a silly cat! I put a medium size on my tailgate and both dogs seem to do well with the dual flap design. A small dog sometimes has problems with valves, but he is fine. I made a window holder for a small aisle and it works surprisingly well, except the cats go crazy with the two flap design…

The cats love it. I shut the flaps for one.

My doors seal well. I installed it on saws in the new door before hanging it. I'd say it's definitely a job for two, at least it is. The pet door frame is slightly dented on a corner where the screw can't be tightened but the weather won't penetrate. My friend said one of the screws looked bent to him when we tightened it. I think he drilled the hole crooked. It doesn't matter. The cats love it. I left the flaps open one day when the weather was still nice and then added a flap. If the weather…

Good door size for a cat

We ordered a Ruff Weather Pet Door for our indoor/outdoor cat. He is medium height and this door is perfect for him. Installation was pretty easy. We had no problems installing it. It took our cat a long time to get used to it. He doesn't like to get out, but has no problem getting in when it's cold. My main issue is that the magnetic stripe on the bottom doesn't work. The door leaf magnet should pull the magnet up from the bottom to seal it when the pet enters the door, but it doesn't. Both…

Great idea but doesn't work in cold weather

We have had this door for over a year now and have encountered a number of issues which we hope the manufacturer can fix. The advantages are, on the one hand, that the double sashes provide good protection against the wind through the door. The installation isn't bad, but choose a spot on the door that doesn't have a designer panel or plan to fill it with foam. The sliding locking plate that comes with the kit slides easily from either side, which is good as there are downsides here. The clear…

    New point of sale: dogs

I bought this to get through the wall leading to the backyard house wall. Because of this I hired a handyman to make sure I didn't mess up my wall. They installed it very quickly. After measuring and subtracting, they start to work. You need a tunnel if it's a wall. If you don't, you'll have to build it like my handyman did. Then nail and seal. The craftsman had to drill new holes on the outside because they didn't line up. But it didn't matter much. Then he fertilized around the outside. My…

    Now the cats are out!

I bought this and a small Ruff-Weather pet door wall kit. I'm posting the same review for both products because they work together to make this awesome cat door (seriously, it's awesome for us). This door means no one else has to be the bouncer for the cats. They always want in, they want out, they want in, then they want out. Now they can come and go as they please. I have used them all (6) within 24 hours. With me on one side and my husband on the other, we gently pushed each cat back and…
