This works as I had hoped.

I had this error message: esptool.FatalError: Failed to connect to ESP8266: Packet header timed out. But then I realized that I had soldered the reset and software switches in the header incorrectly. I soldered them on the back and didn't rotate the picture with the guide in mind so I soldered them to the wrong contacts. Frustrated and given up, I went back, found my mistake, fixed it, and now it's working as intended. Works well. I just wish I wanted to do this (serial communication withโ€ฆ

Solid 4 stars, ONE thing is missing to get 5 stars

This little device is very cool. I didn't get it at first, but after asking questions and experimenting with the community, I got it. The ESP8266 chip is what it is, a "programming board" is just a board that runs directly into your USB port for data and/or power. This is great because with this adapter you can run a device, read data and/or program it and you don't need any components other than the Arduino IDE. The only thing missing from this little board are the "Flash" buttons. To make itโ€ฆ

Big! Network products

I had no problems except * not using the old version of the bootloader. Apart from that my skr v1.4 turbo 3d printer can now communicate via WiFi (the skr and tft screen have their own bugs regarding WiFi but it will get better with time).

To program you need a button, I soldered it, works great.

Programming requires a snap switch, I soldered it, works fine and also added a jumper to allow the ESP8266 to boot. These two required functions are not built into the USB ESP8266 adapter when they should be and do not interfere with the display.

Works but check flash mode, I needed DOUT

Includes universal USB to ESP-01 flash driver and ESP-01 module. However, I had a problem with the ESP8266 ESP-01 module. It is programmed without errors, but the program never runs. I've tried other USB adapters, checked GPIO0, flashed the original AT firmware, etc. Every time the module got a software/firmware update but still wouldn't boot. Finally connect it with a serial monitor (Termite) at 78400 baud to read the boot messages. This is where I noticed that it loaded, but with a checksumโ€ฆ

As others have said, to write to the ESP-01 you need to add a switch to ground GPIO 0 at power up. Not only did I add the GPIO 0 button, I also added the reset button. With a little twisting finger maneuver I can 1) press the reset button, 2) press the GPIO 0 button, 3) release the reset button, then 4) release the GPIO 0 button. With this technique, I don't have to take the whole thing out and put it back in every time I want to write. Requires two buttons on the board and some 30 gaugeโ€ฆ

Works great in Arduino after adding software switches

This worked great for me. Windows 10 recognized the USB adapter com port immediately without adding any drivers. According to other comments you must have a way to ground GPIO0 during reset/power on if you want to upload new sketches to the Arduino IDE. I soldered a toggle switch between GPIO0 and GND and a button between reset and ground on the USB adapter. 20 minutes under UV light, that's just an incredible price of less than ten dollars.

Needs some modifications to work

I don't know why these programmers don't have a button. But you need to solder a button to connect one of the pins to ground before you can flash the esp01. Luckily I had something in my spares basket. I didn't read the description carefully so I had trouble flashing before I went back and read the review and problem description. You need to change it as soon as you receive it. I would deduct more stars but I think it's a design issue with programmers like this.
