Economical solution to outdated hard drive problems

I used it to replace spinning hard drives on my computer and a client computer. They are easy to install and work like any other SSD. One in the photo is running Windows XP and the other is running Windows 98. I've also used them successfully with Mac OS 7 - 9.22.

    • Decent performance
    Cons
    • There are cons

Works great - second device had soldering errors but could be repaired

Works great as an IDE master on a channel with a different DVD drive. Update: I ordered a second one and one of the pins on the IDE connector was badly soldered and only makes contact when the board is held in certain positions. The solder was rubbed at the end of the line, it didn't connect to the pad on the board and didn't touch it when the cable wasn't supported. Tapping with a soldering iron to connect the pin to the pad solved the intermittent problems I was having. The device is now…

Works great!: Computer accessories and peripherals

I've been using a few of these on older systems for a while and they've all worked great. I really like that it has two power input options as it doesn't always have extra 4 pin floppy connectors like other boards I've used. Good choice if that's what you're looking for!

    Pros
    • Good thing
    Cons
    • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine

    It works Computers and accessories

I used this adapter to replace an old computer's hard drive with an SD card. Now I can transfer files much easier. A few tips in case it helps anyone: Be careful with exposed pins under the board. I trimmed the pins with wire cutters and taped the circuit board to the plastic wrap with double sided tape to make sure they didn't short out. The computer did not boot from the SD card after installing DOS. Running fdisk /mbr solved this problem.

    Must-have for vintage computing.

Used as a hard drive for an old Windows 98 PC This item makes an old mechanical IDE hard drive redundant. The only complaint is that the hard drive activity LED is difficult to see between the other two LEDs.

    • Delivery was very fast

Works perfectly, needs more detailed instructions.

Works as it should. However, better instructions could have been included. The old computer I installed it on does not automatically determine the correct hard drive settings for this device.

    • Sad hardware

    Handy for any old computer

Works very well. With the XT Universal BIOS you will have no problems. I've also tried using a regular motherboard BIOS with LBA support if you want to go that route. Pretty quick for the 486 I compared it to. Downsides include the built-in LEDs, which are too bright to look at, and the pins on the power connector protrude from the bottom, so you have to be very careful not to install it in a spot that could cause a short circuit. She. Thingiverse has a nice mount by NilsR that works for both…

    • Unbelievable price

    No master/slave jumper

It would be REALLY nice if this thing had a master/slave jumper because they are often used in legacy systems that don't have automatic wire selection. This means it might be the only one on that IDE connector, meaning it can take the place of BOTH IDE drives you might have attached to that cable. This is annoying considering a jumper would be a cheap solution.

Didn't work on 8 different PCs from 1988 to 2004.

I tried this idea to run SD cards on 8 different PCs, 1 Packard Bell Legend I, custom 386SX-25, custom 386DX-40, one with Promise ISA controller card and the other with universal I/ O controllers, custom 486DX-33 with PT477 I/O controller, custom 486DX2-66 with integrated VLB IDE, custom Pentium 200MMX, custom Pentium II with BX440 card, and custom AthlonXP with Nforce2 chipset. I'm using a brand new Ultra ATA 100 capable IDE cable. When I couldn't get it to work I tried other cables, that have
