Returned. Slowdown Warning.

I bought this for peace of mind when my family was home alone. Returned due to slow updates/alerts. I have tested the time from 10 seconds to almost 3 minutes between opening or closing the door and the corresponding warning appearing. 3 minutes is too long for someone in your house before the alarm goes off!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

It detects if my garage door is closed and beeps in the app if you want it to. The ringing lasts about 3 seconds. This works well with Google too, I've set Google Home to react when the garage door is open or closed and my bedtime routine will confirm if the gate is open or closed.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Useless features

I was only able to connect once, I couldn't connect anymore.

No IFTTT support even though the Monoprice app is a smart home clone. connect more. Go with an alternative. I bought another one that uses Smart Home and connects flawlessly with Wi-Fi and IFTTT. I bought them because they were cheap, used. It's not worth it.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Operating speed

Very easy to add to Alexa, very small, no hub required.

I have always loved Monoprice and thought I would get a good product. I wasn't wrong. I need a voicemail notification that works with Alexa. Most of the sensors I reviewed were either large or required a hub as part of the "home system". It's fairly small, no hub required, and the Alexa Routine (my first!) was set up in minutes. Although it's designed to fit in a sash window, I found it went great with my giant plastic mailbox.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Something different

Worked great, stopped responding after a few days.

Works right out of the box. The app was intuitive and easy to use. The double sided tape that came with the sensor worked well and I used it to attach the sensor to the door frame. The sensor plugged in and initially worked very well. After a few days the sensor stopped responding and had to be reset and added to the app again. The battery level showed 98% every time the device crashed. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it to try again. I ran this process 5 times with the same result - the…

Good sensor at a reasonable price.

Installation was easy after downloading the instructions from the website. The brochure that came with the device could not be read even with a magnifying glass. The sensor works perfectly. Some users have complained about the slow response, but I think this is due to Wi-Fi and the internet and not the product. I like being able to monitor and control notifications. With some windows I just need to know if they are open. I just integrated it with Alexa. The magnet is too big to fit on my sash…

App based door sensor - random late notifications?

Batteries included! Very good. Installation is quite easy (only works with 2.4GHz WiFi!), the kit includes 4 AAA batteries with 3M glue and 8 screws for sensors (depending on how you want to attach them). My only criticism of the 3M adhesive is that the cut out hole on the back is a little hard to see so I actually applied it upside down - I assume it's for tamper evident purposes. In any case, I'm only rating these 4 stars because the app's notifications seem questionable at times - in one…

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Can't remember

Why didn't they make more of it?

I've tried many different door sensors (reed switches). The thing is huge, I can't imagine needing something that gigantic on my door or window. I posted a photo of it next to the Aqara sensor that I'm now using instead. The Monoprice sensor is slow to respond, disconnects or reconnects to 2.4GHz WiFi, and is just awkward to use. I need door sensors that work quickly, especially when I use them to automatically turn on lights or set off an alarm. The Monoprice sensor takes up to 5 minutes to…

Very pretty and uses AAA

I needed new door and window sensors so I decided to try this product before deciding to buy more to replace the ones I had from ADT. Setup is pretty easy and works with Alexa Routines, which is nice. You can write a routine that will announce to Alexa which door sensor has been opened or closed. If you don't want it to be right, the app will let you know with a notification sound. However, I like the routine better because I can have Alexa say which particular sensor triggered, for all the…
