I have never painted before but I have two denim sofas with slipcovers that were in excellent condition in all respects except that they were badly and unevenly faded. Ignore the mixed reviews. First, you have to be patient and expect your hands and surfaces to get a little dirty from the splashes. That's not evidence of idiocy. Have some bleach handy in the form of a stovetop cleaning spray. I use 2/3 boxes per item - tight cotton jeans for example. Add the required amount of salt according to the package directions with a small amount of dishwashing liquid. Using a large cheap pan (I have a special one that I only use to dye clothes) is a worthy investment.
