Less than ideal - TV and video

I bought this to replace an Xfinity box in a guest room to avoid a $10 monthly rent. The only problem is that almost all channels only come partially. Only Bravo, Comedy Central, ABC, and TV Land are shown in full screen. Roku can't figure it out and says it's an Xfinity issue with the Xfinity app. Xfinity says it's a Roku issue and we're going in circles. Nobody can understand it or doesn't want to take responsibility. With that in mind, buy at your own risk

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Misleading product description

I went to the Roku website, found the product I wanted, then searched for it on Revain, clicked the obvious link and bought it. I then ordered a dual band router to stream 802.11ac. Guess what: This Roku Premiere isn't the Roku Premiere featured on the Roku website and doesn't support 802.11ac. All the information is there if you dig deep enough, but who does? I would pay more for the right product if Revane referred me to him. They didn't.

Credit card REQUIRED

If I can't find a way to set up Roku without giving them my credit card info, I'll refund it. I have no intention of purchasing anything and if I did I would expect to provide my credit card number. I really don't like being circumcised like that! I want to use the product but not lose sleep due to identity theft susceptibility. Yet again. I'll update this review if I find a way around this requirement, it's wrong. And it makes no sense.

You get what you pay for

I bought this because I wanted to upgrade to a 4k device. I have two more Rocuses and am happy with them. But the premiere of 4k - garbage. 4K without 802.11ac. It worked fine for the first 24 hours and then the WiFi kept dropping while everything else in the house was fine. They used cheap chipsets and then overclocked them like hell so this little thing idles at almost 90C. The form factor prevents any form of cooling. The remote control is cheap so you can't control your TV with it. In…

Don't buy ROKU Premier! Why is it called Premier? This is a stripped down version of ROKU. I bought two other ROKU streaming sticks. I LOVE ROCK streaming. When my new ROKU flash drive arrived, I noticed several issues: 1. No volume control2. No on/off switch3. No built-in voice command4. The stick must be BEFORE the TV Obviously, ROKU wants us to buy a standalone Echo. If I wanted Alexa, I'd already have an Echo device. IMHO, Roku broke one of the most important consumer rules by removing key…

GREAT PRICE - LOW CABLES

Since we have a 55 inch 4G TV I thought it would be a good idea to invest $40 in a new Roku HDMI PREMIUM player. It works really well and I can hardly tell a difference. in the picture. This is about our fourth Roku device. My only criticism of this product is the cables (HDMI and power cords are too short. Instructions state to use the cables that came with the product. Since my HDMI input is on the same side of the TV and my power supply (yes, we have splinters ) but the only option left was…

smart tv Still using Roku

, Recently bought a new 4K Smart TV. The fun part happened when my first potential buyer of my old Smart TV stopped by. The old TV needed a software update. "I've never used smart features and prefer ROKU," was my response, not being ready for a demo. It is true. With a surround sound system that supports HDMI pass-through/routing, I prefer to keep my smarts away from the TV. When I read reviews of new 4K TVs before I bought them, I found that many of the performance issues I've seen on my…

We have a Spectrum TV at home. To save money, I turned off cable TV in my room from the start. After doing a little research, I found out that Roku has a Spectrum app that works with a cable subscription, so I decided to order it. I figured it would be worth paying the $30 upfront for the Roku media player instead of paying $10 a month to rent a cable box. So far I think it's been worth it. The Roku Premiere hardware itself is pretty cool. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but…

EDIT: I pre-ordered Atari VCS because I was fed up with the limitations of Roku and other popular video streaming devices as they all are , either don't have a web browser or the web browser isn't working well. The Atari VCS will be a full-featured Linux computer with a full-featured web browser/video streamer with apps/games console that can do anything on your TV. .This is EXACTLY what I always wanted. I've used Roku for many years, including several different models. Here are a few points to
