I made a mistake writing this review, burned a piece of thread by itself and concluded that it is not truly flame retardant. However, this fiber needs to be sewn into the fabric before testing, it appears to be flame retardant enough. That being said, the tensile strength of this material is still not shiny, less than 5 lbs.

Kevlar thread is very strong. Sometimes it is too strong for the material to be joined. Kevlar can wear down a hole by cutting through material like cloth shoes. Sew a longer seam to distribute the stress area over a larger area. Kevlar is a fantastic material, but you must plan how the repaired product will be used and then plan the repair wisely.

I'm a mechanic in the engine shop and we go through welding gloves like crazy. Between welding and working on grinding machines, our gloves withstand heavy loads and high temperatures. I've tried sewing my gloves with it and it's holding up pretty well considering. A few of my boys have also tried making their own gloves and it's a wise investment even if it means they can last a few more months.
