SimpleMind is a mind mapping tool that turns your computer into a brainstorming, idea collection and thought structuring device. The software is easy to use, intuitive and provides a powerful way to manage ideas. It allows you to quickly create new maps and organize information from any source including documents, web pages, databases and text. You can create hierarchies, cross-links and embed media. There are three ways to view your map. You can view a map as a flat image, or see nodes and…

Pros
  • There is no need for training to learn how to use the tool because its very intuitive and very easy to use.
  • There is also a free edition which is good enough to test the product.
Cons
  • Can be a little confusing when creating maps especially if you are not familiar with how to use it.
  • Can't access saved maps unless you pay for a premium version

What I liked best about Simple Mind was that it allowed me to create my own personal map of concepts and ideas, which then could be exported to Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents. The software also allowed me to share my maps via e-mail with colleagues. Another great feature was the ability to export and save the maps as PDF files, which I could print and store in my briefcase. The software also gave me the ability to record and annotate the maps. In addition, I liked the fact that SimpleMind…

Pros
  • Great way to get started
  • Ability to create custom templates that can be shared online and downloaded
  • Allows you to add and remove nodes from your diagrams
Cons
  • Software is not easy to learn
  • It is expensive
  • Lack of robust documentation

It’s amazing how much information you can get from it if you want to. It has plenty of features, including text notes, hyperlinks and pictures that you can add to nodes to further categorize them. It allows you to save maps so you can go back later and edit them. It is very intuitive and simple to use. You can see what topics others are interested in and look for similar topics yourself. I really like the map feature. My only issue would be having an easier way to export all my data. If there…

Pros
  • It is easy to use and navigate around.
  • You can easily share things and view what others have shared.
Cons
  • The map feature takes a while to load.
  • It doesn't have an option to email links to users.
  • You can zoom in, move around and pan around.

I was impressed with the ease of use of SimpleMind and the fact that it does what it says it does. I would however suggest that they put more emphasis on the social aspect of mind mapping and less on the visual side. Also there should be a better integration with other tools (Evernote etc). In general I liked it, but would suggest that they add more focus on the social aspect of mind mapping, especially on how it could help teams collaborate better. I did notice though that there was quite a…

Pros
  • It is very easy to use and integrate with other tools such as Evernote etc.
  • There are a number of templates to choose from.
  • Good visual representation of your ideas.
Cons
  • There is no easy way to search through ideas once they are created
  • Only supports one type of file at a time
