Great product but not for rotomoulding

Used to make 2 rotomolding masks. It wasn't the best resin as the instant cure didn't allow for a consistent thickness, but it was still good enough to use. It really cures a brilliant, pure white and discolours easily. I used an auto spray primer and was able to paint the masks easily. I would buy it again as the main shipping and cost is the convenience.

Great product, but beware - set up too quickly?

This product installs SUPER FAST. For example, if you mix more than a little, it will set even before you mix and pour. This happened to me in the middle of pouring and I only mixed it for about 30 seconds. Smooth-On is a great company and they recommended a slower curing product for me to use and it worked great. Mixing the entire container at once will set it MUCH faster than the recommended time, so use caution. Operating at slightly below recommended temperatures can slow setting time and…

It is great. I used it to pour slush

This stuff is great. I used it to pour slush. If you are using it for this purpose, DO NOT mix everything at once. Mix the batch while using it as it will start to gel after about 3 minutes. I recommend using a timer so you know how much time you have. 3 minutes gives you enough time to cover everything, after that its consistency is thick and it still spreads very SLOWLY so keep moving it until the plastic turns white. If it's white, you know it's installed. It also grinds well. I have…

Set the timer!: Sculpture Supplies

When they say 3 minutes, they mean 3 minutes and not a second more. When I started pouring the second on my timer at 3:14am, nothing came out of the mixing bowl! The form I was able to fill out turned out to be perfect. Be careful if you want to fill multiple shapes or have a large object. a resin with a longer setting time may be considered. 😱Update: I did an experiment. I mixed metallic acrylic paint with resin. It didn't go so well! 😧 The chemical reaction was dramatic, expanding and…

Great product, no complaints!

I am making a costume that requires several bird skulls. If anyone needs an idea of how many decent sizes one box can make, here's a great example! My large skulls measure 3.5 x 8 x 1.5 inches. My smaller skulls measure 2.5" x 5.5" x 1". was able to get exactly 4 of each with a box of Smooth Cast. Unfortunately, that left me without 1 large skull, so I've got more on the way! In terms of ease of use this material is very easy to use I have used homemade silicone molds although I believe using…

Follow directions carefully, work quickly

I used this to make sclera for doll eyes. This resin gives me the brilliant white base I need. Since I make small pieces that are just over 1/2 inch wide, I mixed up small batches by measuring with a silicone teaspoon. Measuring accurately with the markings on your mixing/pour cup is extremely difficult and I wasted my first impression on that. .I now use the plastic cup that came with the cough syrup - the flat bottom is important! I stir with the handle of a plastic fork. I had no problems…

ONYX vs. SmoothCast-300

By far the BEST SmoothOn product. At this point I have to say that SmoothOn is a good company. Thanks Jeremy for your help. In addition, Revain's test sample prices are lower than those of the manufacturer (SmoothOn) or other suppliers. Now for comparison, SoothOn has ONYX (Fast & Slow) that dries black. Both fast and slow ONYX are VERY delicate and problematic resins. They tend to inflate on humid days and BUBBLE (large bubbles) form due to the heat. ONYX if you want black is ok for small…
