Good product, bad documentation

I'm revising my original review of this probe as it died just before an all day project. First review: the instructions that came with the probe could have been more detailed. A: The LED doesn't always light up, but I've read in other reviews that it only lights up when the signal is strong. I wish this was better documented. Update: There is no definitive answer to this question yet. First check: Whether you go to the phone or network settings, it doesn't seem to prevent the sound from being…

To provide you with my qualifications for reviewing this item: I am a Senior Systems Administrator with over 15 years of experience in my field. Over the years I've done more than my fair share of network installations, including contract network installations, ranging from SOHO to multinational enterprise data centers. I've used gauges, tone generators, and probes from many different manufacturers, including Fluke, Ideal, Greenlee, and a few unnamed Chinese curmudgeons. To say I'm familiar…

Good luck with it.

If you buy this, good luck. I've used Tontracer before, but this one seems to have eluded the development lab before it was finalized. My biggest problem are the switches and ports on the sides. None of them are identified as to function/selection. The engineer who designed the mold for the plastic case had to include raised letters indicating the function/position. While it may be language specific, a plastic tag will do. The "User's Guide" (printed in 3-dot typeface) covers the switches and…

Works perfectly! on Networking Products

Rugged design, you know you will see the object accurately because the probe is narrow at the end. Not that this product will give you a general idea of where the cable is. Where you drill a hole in the wall/where the cable is actually good is your fault/blame hahaha. On the other hand, if you're behind a switch with 30 weird wires trying to find one that the printer connects well to, this little tool really comes in handy and works great. Or, if you're on the rafters or under a building, it…

Helps clean up chaos

I am an IT volunteer at my church where we have a small network that spans 2 buildings with about 50 workstations/servers/network devices. As we've grown over the years, we (I) haven't always carefully labeled our cables. As a result, it's sometimes difficult to diagnose connection problems since we're not sure which port the device is using. I recently bought a new Fluke Micromapper - Fluke Networks MicroMapper MT-8200-49A Network Testing Device - D20256 to test our cable. constantly. It has a

Good toner: Network transceiver

I have 2 and love them. I like that the button has to be held down so it doesn't spill into my work bag when the button is pressed (which is a common occurrence with other toners I've had). I also like that the speaker is very loud so you can hear the sound even when working on a busy street.

Average value in network products

It has a few small parts but nowhere to store. The pressure on the device is very, very small. You need good eyesight and lots of light to read them. As others have said, there is no way to test the more common F-connectors like TV and cable. They can be purchased separately. But then again, there is no place to save them. It has been said that 2.5mm headphones can be used from a mobile phone. All my phones use 3.5mm jacks. Therefore, you may need to purchase a separate pair of headphones with…

Questionable build quality for the price

Almost got 5 stars until I dropped it. questionable build quality. I once dropped it from 3 feet and already have to tape the battery cover back up. I do not recommend it as an all-day telecom toner. great spare toner. still a good pick-me-up that I will use as often as possible. impressive sound quality and volume with many features, but it will not replace your Fluke
