I work in IT and I use this to migrate user data

When installing or deploying new PCs I need to move all user data from the old PC to the new one. Almost every PC has an SSD, so I needed an external SSD to speed up the migration process. I reduced the average migration time from 3 hours to 1.5 hours. I bought this device about 6 months ago and use it almost every day for migration: we're talking TB of data per week. I haven't had a single problem with it and it still works great.

Oyen 4TB SSD - fast, strong and reliable

Sure, Oyen's 4TB drive is expensive, but how much is your time and data worth? Compared to other external SSDs, Oyen's 4TB drive offers good value for money. The 8TB version is even better. I will still use spinning platters to archive data (my 19 year old archived drives still work reliably) but my daily and weekly backup modes now use Samsung T5 and Oyen U32 SSDs. I will add more high capacity Oyen SSDs as my budget allows. I should note that my operating system is MAC Big Sur 11.4.

Great SSD for Mac

I bought the 2TB version of this drive to use Copy Cloner to create a bootable backup for my Late 2012 iMac. It's one of the recommended drives on the CCC website, so I took a chance and bought it. My old drive was a traditional hard drive that was slow to backup and very slow to boot. As expected, this SSD is fast. I only use a standard USB 3.0 port as my iMac doesn't have USB-C ports. It's only slightly slower to boot than my internal Fusion drive, amazing! Backups are also much faster. The…

  • Modern

I bought this CD because as a director shooting everything in 6k RAW I needed a quick transfer. I burn everything onto 1TB T7 discs (they get 1000MB) and transfer to that disc. It's really nice to have 8TB, but the write speed drops to 160MB/s after 30 seconds. I used to buy 4TB fast drives from Seagate (they've been discontinued) and they've been running at 250MB all along. I've tried many different cables and used TB3 ports, but it just can't keep up with its speed. The maximum I've seen is…

Bought for use with Carbon Copy Cloner on their recommendation

I bought this drive to remotely rotate and clone my iMac's boot drive. Carbon Copy Cloner (great software!) recommended this device. It's a good value considering it's 1TB solid state, very small, silent, imperceptible heat and weighs next to nothing. 3 year guarantee! I recommend! Update 9/25/20: I needed tech support for an issue I was having so I called their phone number and exited the VM. They got back to me within 24 hours. They gave me a direction and everything worked out. I was…

UPDATED REVIEW: Works great now.

I bought this particular SSD to use as an external boot drive for my 2017 i5 5K 27" iMac. It was recommended by the publisher of the Carbon Copy Cloner software, which I used to clone my internal boot disk to this SSD. I first reformatted the SSD and then cloned my internal boot disk to it according to the instructions. I was very disappointed with the performance, it was very slow, especially on startup. The next day I've gone through the steps again and can say that it runs pretty fast using…

Super fast when it works

I used this to consolidate backups from all my devices and restore them to my latest laptop with a wonderful USB-C 3.1. the move went smoothly. I put it aside for now as the internal nvme drive is just as fast and big enough for now. The problem is that after a few months I want to use it again and it keeps connecting and disconnecting from my computer. In Device Manager it shows up as an expandable 3.1 device and then disappears. maybe it shows up again after 15 seconds and then disappears…

Can't work with it as described

UPDATE: The drive just failed. It only took four months and he crashed! I haven't even finished my project I bought it for. Other drives purchased at the same time will still work. Very disappointed. First Review: I bought it because the description made it sound like I could work on a movie straight from this SSD. I've done this with other SSD drives so I knew it should work. But as soon as I started working on the project, problems with the playback started to appear. I switched the working…

So far: Great! good for external SSDs

I've been warned that while SSDs are much faster, smaller and better in every way than regular drives, if they fail, they can fail forever. I don't know how true that caveat is, but - just to avoid disaster - I bought two of these drives (to store my gargantuan iTunes library) so I can keep one off the office and rotate it regularly. (Probably even should work with regular drives, right?) So far my first U32 Shadow Dura is working great and I slap myself on the head for buying it. I like these…
