An ungrounded tip fried 30% of our Arduino boards.

LOST TIP WARNING! I gave it 5 stars so it doesn't get lost in the reviews but BUYERS BE CAREFUL when soldering ESD sensitive microelectronics. Two of these were used on our PCB assembly line and after months of mysterious microcontroller failures we finally found a problem with this soldering iron. A 30 volt AC current is passed through the tip, see fig. This burned up about 30% of the Arduino Minis we put on our circuit boards. We thought we had a bad batch of minis, but we finally found the…

Unpacked - buyers beware.

I ordered this product for some light consumer electronics projects and unfortunately it was defective from the start. When first used, the device did not get warm when plugged in or switched on. . I moved the wire that connects to the iron and then it worked. I pulled it out again after a little over a month and now it doesn't work anymore. The indicator light is on, but the iron won't heat up and wiggling the wire doesn't help. Unfortunately, I'm outside of Revain's return window. Buyer…

Reliable hobbyist and hobbyist soldering station for occasional use

I use it for occasional simple do-it-yourself repairs and this station does it well, especially for $40. Pros: + Good for home, hobby and occasional use + Good quality for the price + Weller is a big brand with a good reputation so there is a wide range of attachments available for almost any project. / Heat as higher power - no temp reading so you'll have to experiment to find the right setting for each soldering task - no ground. To get the missing features (higher performance, more accurate…

I always knew I would burn myself with a soldering iron, but not like this.

Looks like Weller made a quick and dirty $40 from me. I've used this thing three times. I'm guessing 3x the MTBF for a 40W POS-WLC100. I mean I get that this is their budget hardware but oh well. Indeed? Of course I don't have time to return Revain so now I have to contact Weller through this upline and wasting my time. Understand your mileage may vary and some people have been lucky enough to purchase a working one but not in my case so this is my chance to express my dissatisfaction. Lesson…

Pros
  • GOLS Certificate
Cons
  • I'll text back later

I used to solder with cheap $5 soldering irons on eBay and Radioshack. So soldering remained a mystery to me because I used bad tools. The irons didn't heat up enough, I didn't have spare tips depending on the application, and solder stuck to the tips because they were poorly constructed and not kept clean (partially my fault). I was arguing between this model and another Weller model with an analog temperature controller. I liked that this is a well-known brand with a wide range of nozzles. I…

Not good for welding and soldering

I bought these thinking I would get good results if I bought a well known brand. I used this on 10 gauge wire first. I had a hell of a time to heat the wire just enough to get the solder into the connections and I ended up just melting it onto the wire and then around which made a crappy connection. I assumed this was because it was 10 gauge wire and thicker, had a large heatsink and was time consuming. Problem. It took me a good 10 minutes for the solder to melt on and around the wire without…

A real hit: soldering stations

I have been using Weller soldering products for 40 years. While working I came across a Weller soldering station for the first time. in the 1970s in a naval weapons factory and shortly thereafter again in a nuclear X-ray assembly plant. I first learned to solder with my father's giant soldering iron in the 1940's and later when I was doing finer electronic work. (as well as my Railroad and Arcade models) I've been using the Ungar 40W iron for years. it's versatility and reliability. With full…

Great iron for small jobs

Great iron for short run work, should last a long time (used to work in a computer shop which had some Well irons that are over 20 years old and this iron seems to maintain the quality of previous production). nice and sturdy, fits in a small tool box along with the included hardware (I got a 16" plastic Stanley box for about ten bucks). the tip comes pre-tinned (someone mentioned the problem with the curl at the tip ie soldering, I burned it almost immediately fumbling with the iron). If this…

Pros
  • Includes: Weller-certified ST3 iron-coated tip for long life and consistent performance, integrated solder holder for safe pen placement and cleaning sponge to remove unwanted solder residue for next use
