In this case, the alligator clip will not work as well as the original buckles. But it (the clip) holds up well and the width of the strap is ideal for threading through the slots on the camera body.

After receiving my straps I have to seriously question five short 5 star reviews. My belts are .75" instead of the advertised .79". The buckle is clearly designed for a 1" harness, so the webbing will want to slide to one end or the other of the buckle. So it tends to go a little lopsided. The buckles feel pretty strong and I like them. The buckles are very "stubborn" for the straps. The strap itself is very thin!
