# ArcBlock (ABT): how it works, supply and reviews

## In short

- **Type**: Application-focused Layer 1 blockchain (ArcBlock Chain)
- **Risks and caveats**: Moving ABT between ArcBlock Chain, Ethereum and Base relies on a bridge, which adds its own security assumptions.
- **Checked**: 31 October 2026

## Key facts

- **Ticker**: ABT

Key facts checked on 31 October 2026 against official sources.

## What is ArcBlock

ArcBlock is a blockchain and application platform; its ArcBlock Chain is a Layer 1 network for identity, assets and agreements. ABT is the native token of the public ArcBlock network and also exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and on Base. In 2026 ArcBlock focuses its product work on ARC (Agentic Realm Computer).

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Application-focused Layer 1 blockchain (ArcBlock Chain) |
| Smart contracts | Native transaction types for transfers, token issuance, asset operations and staking instead of a separate smart contract per basic operation |
| Runs on | Native ABT on ArcBlock Chain; ERC-20 ABT on Ethereum and ABT on Base, bridged 1:1 in token units |

## What ABT is used for

- Paying network fees and paying in applications that accept ABT.
- Stake for Gas: staking 1 ABT on the public network gives a transaction-fee exemption while eligible.
- Stake for X: locking ABT as a bond behind an agreement with a service, which an authorised party can slash if the agreement is broken.

## Who develops and governs ArcBlock

- **Founders**: Robert Mao, founder of ArcBlock
- **Open source**: Blocklet Server security fixes are published as separate commits in the public repository

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| October 2017 | ArcBlock's first complete architecture design was finalised in October 2017. |
| 7 May 2019 | First public beta of the ArcBlock blockchain platform (release 0.21.45). |
| 20 May 2019 | ArcBlock released ABT Wallet and a decentralized identity (DID) solution for blockchain developers. |
| 12 November 2019 | ArcBlock Blockchain Platform 1.0 released as the first stable version. |
| 24 January 2020 | ArcBlock released its Token Swap Service and asset chain. |
| 19 October 2026 | ArcBlock published a security hardening release for Blocklet Server; every release up to and including 1.17.12 is affected. |
| 22 October 2026 | ArcBlock announced that official hosting for Blocklet Server 1.x, ArcBlock Launcher and the legacy Blocklet Store retires on 31 December 2026. |

## Security and audits

- In October 2026 a security review of Blocklet Server found authorization-scope, logging and input-validation issues; fixes ship in 1.17.13-beta-20261019-082907-fe71de61 and later, and hosted apps were already patched.
- Abuse of Stake for Gas can lead to the whole stake being slashed to the community pool.

## Security incidents

No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 31 October 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): [defillama.com/hacks](https://defillama.com/hacks), [hacked.slowmist.io/search](https://hacked.slowmist.io/search/), [rekt.news/leaderboard](https://rekt.news/leaderboard/), [arcblock.io/en/articles](https://www.arcblock.io/en/articles/)

## Risks and caveats

- Moving ABT between ArcBlock Chain, Ethereum and Base relies on a bridge, which adds its own security assumptions.
- Staked ABT is locked and can be slashed by the party the stake authorises, under the declared rules.
- Blocklet Server 1.x hosted services end on 31 December 2026; Launcher-hosted applications stop and legacy hosted runtime data is deleted.

## Questions and answers

**What is ArcBlock (ABT)?**

ArcBlock runs ArcBlock Chain, an application-focused Layer 1 for identity, assets and agreements; ABT is the native token of its public network.

**What is ABT used for?**

ABT pays network fees and services that accept it, and can be staked: 1 ABT staked gives a transaction-fee exemption (Stake for Gas).

**Who founded ArcBlock?**

ArcBlock names Robert Mao as its founder.

**Is ABT an ERC-20 token?**

ABT exists natively on ArcBlock Chain and as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, plus a Base version; a bridge converts between them 1:1 in token units.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
