# Creditcoin (CTC): how it works, supply and reviews

## Key facts

- **Ticker**: CTC
- **Official site**: [creditcoin.org](https://creditcoin.org/)
- **Source code**: [github.com/gluwa/Creditcoin](https://github.com/gluwa/Creditcoin)

Data: CoinGecko (trading activity) and CoinPaprika (links), 2026-10-27. Only projects that still trade with meaningful volume are listed.

## What is Creditcoin

Creditcoin is an EVM-compatible proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain that began in 2017 as on-chain credit-recording infrastructure for lending in emerging markets. It now also offers cross-chain smart contracts (the Attestcoin Protocol) that read and verify data from other blockchains; CTC is its native token.

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain built with the Polkadot SDK (Substrate) |
| Consensus | Nominated proof of stake: nominators back validators, and blocks are authored with BABE |
| Block time | 15 seconds; finality in 1–3 blocks |
| Launched | 2017 (first mainnet, for micro-lending records starting in Nigeria) |
| Smart contracts | Yes; Solidity contracts on the EVM layer, plus cross-chain Attestcoin Smart Contracts |

## Supply and issuance

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Issuance | 2 new CTC are minted per non-uncle block, about 11,520 CTC per era, paid to validators and their nominators |
| Staking rewards | Rewards are split equally among active validators regardless of stake, then shared with nominators by stake after commission |

## What CTC is used for

- Staking and running validators to secure the network
- Paying gas fees on the Substrate and EVM layers
- Using dApps and DeFi on Creditcoin's EVM layer
- Voting on protocol upgrades

## Who develops and governs Creditcoin

- **Foundation**: Creditcoin Foundation, which operates RPC nodes and some validators
- **Developer**: Gluwa, Inc. is Creditcoin's technology provider; the code is on Gluwa's GitHub
- **Legal entity**: Creditcoin OÜ (website operator)
- **Validators**: Up to 50 active validators, most run by the community

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2017 | Creditcoin mainnet launches as credit-recording infrastructure for micro-lending, starting in Nigeria. |
| 23 March 2022 | Creditcoin 2.0 is announced, moving the chain from Hyperledger Sawtooth to Substrate. |
| 2024 | State migrates from CC Enterprise (Creditcoin 2.0) to the EVM-compatible Creditcoin3. |
| 2026 | The Attestcoin Protocol brings cross-chain reads to Creditcoin mainnet. |

## Security and audits

- Validators, and the nominators backing them, can be slashed for inactivity, producing two blocks in one slot, or finalising competing forks.

## Official CTC contracts

| Network | Contract address |
|---|---|
| Ethereum (CTC / G-CRE) | [0xa3ee21c306a700e682abcdfe9baa6a08f3820419](https://etherscan.io/token/0xa3ee21c306a700e682abcdfe9baa6a08f3820419) |
| Ethereum (WCTC, new) | [0xeB32AD88b09fB94129a8B972876Ad02EaAc91E53](https://etherscan.io/token/0xeB32AD88b09fB94129a8B972876Ad02EaAc91E53) |

CTC is native to the Creditcoin chain. On Ethereum, the ERC-20 CTC (G-CRE) can be bridged one-way to the native chain with the Swap CTC tool; WCTC is a wrapped version that moves between Creditcoin, Ethereum and BSC via Wormhole. An older WCTC contract is being phased out.

## Risks and caveats

- Several CTC versions exist (native, EVM, ERC-20 G-CRE, wrapped WCTC); the G-CRE swap to the native chain is one-way.
- Staked CTC can be slashed, including nominators' stake if their validator misbehaves.
- New CTC is minted with every block as staking rewards, so the supply keeps growing.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
