# DUSK: how it works, supply and reviews

## Key facts

- **Ticker**: DUSK
- **Official site**: [dusk.network](https://dusk.network/)
- **Source code**: [github.com/dusk-network](https://github.com/dusk-network)

Data: CoinGecko (trading activity) and CoinPaprika (links), 2026-10-27. Only projects that still trade with meaningful volume are listed.

## What is DUSK

Dusk is a proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain built for regulated finance, such as tokenised securities, with privacy and selective disclosure. DUSK is its native token, used for gas and staking; ERC-20 and BEP-20 versions exist on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain for migration and bridging.

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Layer-1 blockchain (DuskDS settlement layer) with DuskVM (Rust/WASM) and the Ethereum-compatible DuskEVM |
| Consensus | Succinct Attestation, a committee-based proof of stake with deterministic finality |
| Finality | About 10 seconds, deterministic |
| Privacy | Two transaction models: Moonlight (public accounts) and Phoenix (shielded transfers), using zero-knowledge proofs |
| Smart contracts | Yes: DuskVM (Rust/WASM) and DuskEVM |

## Supply and issuance

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Maximum supply | 1,000,000,000 DUSK: 500 million initial plus 500 million emitted over time |
| Issuance | 500 million DUSK emitted over 36 years to fund staking rewards |
| Halving | Emission halves every 4 years |
| Staking rewards | Block reward (emission plus fees): 70% to the block generator plus up to 10% extra, 10% development fund, 5% each to validation and ratification committees |
| Initial distribution | Token sale 50%, development 18.1%, exchange 11.8%, marketing 7.3%, team 6.4%, advisors 6.4%; vesting ran May 2019 to April 2022 |

## What DUSK is used for

- Paying gas for transactions and on-chain execution, on Dusk and on DuskEVM.
- Staking (minimum 1,000 DUSK) to secure the network and earn rewards.

## Who develops and governs DUSK

- **Developer**: Dusk, based in the Netherlands
- **Reference node**: Rusk, the reference node implementation running Succinct Attestation
- **Funding**: 10% of each block reward goes to a development fund

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| May 2019 | Vesting of the initial 500 million DUSK begins; it ended in April 2022. |
| 29 November 2024 | Dusk whitepaper (2024) last updated. |
| 17 February 2025 | Public sender ABI activated on mainnet at block 355,000. |
| 10 December 2025 | Blob transactions activated on mainnet. |
| 17 February 2026 | PLONK V2 activated on mainnet. |

## Security and audits

- Published audits include PLONK, Kadcast networking, Piecrust VM, consensus, node library, Phoenix and the migration contract (2023–2024).
- The ERC-20 and BEP-20 DUSK contracts were assessed in April 2026.
- Stakers face soft penalties for failed participation and hard penalties, including stake burning, for invalid consensus behaviour.

## Official DUSK contracts

| Network | Contract address |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | [0x940a2db1b7008b6c776d4faaca729d6d4a4aa551](https://etherscan.io/token/0x940a2db1b7008b6c776d4faaca729d6d4a4aa551) |
| BNB Smart Chain | [0xb2bd0749dbe21f623d9baba856d3b0f0e1bfec9c](https://bscscan.com/token/0xb2bd0749dbe21f623d9baba856d3b0f0e1bfec9c) |

Native DUSK lives on Dusk mainnet; the ERC-20 and BEP-20 versions exist for migration and bridging.

## Risks and caveats

- Holders of ERC-20 or BEP-20 DUSK must migrate through the Web Wallet to get native mainnet DUSK.
- Stakers can lose part of their stake through hard slashing for invalid consensus behaviour.
- Supply grows by emissions until about 1 billion DUSK, with the fastest growth in the first four years.

## Questions and answers

**What is Dusk (DUSK)?**

Dusk is a proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain for regulated finance with privacy and selective disclosure. DUSK pays gas and is staked to secure the network.

**What is the maximum supply of DUSK?**

1 billion DUSK: 500 million initial tokens plus 500 million emitted over 36 years, halving every 4 years.

**How does Dusk reach consensus?**

Dusk uses Succinct Attestation, a committee-based proof of stake that gives deterministic finality in about 10 seconds.

**Has Dusk been audited?**

Yes. Dusk publishes audit reports for its core components from 2023–2024 and for the ERC-20 and BEP-20 contracts from April 2026.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
